I'm currently locked in a contract with my current provider. Can I buy it now and activate it later?

If you buy now you will STILL be wrapping up around november which will allow you to get the buy 3 get 3,,,,as an added bonus if you already purchased a plan from target or best buy those plans stay good ALOT longer..I've done one as long as a year later....and the extra 3 months is based on ACTIVATING a sim so you can activate a kit you purchased earlier when the buy 3 get 3 is going and get the extra months.
