I switched from 4x 14TB WD white labels shucked from EasyStores to 4 of these Exos x20 20TB that I got for $260 from a Newegg deal two months back. These drives are much more responsive than the white labels (seek times when streaming music turned from half a second into instantaneous), but at a big cost in noise. These are LOUD when they are being taxed. I regret the purchase somewhat, but I'm not sure if there are quieter 20TBs. At any rate, I wouldn't recommend these for a NAS in a living space, unless you have a high tolerance for drive noise.
If you have a silent oriented case then the noise isn't bad at all. I have 3 of these running in an Unraid server with one drive for parity inside an Antec P101 Case. Even during a parity check with all three drives spinning full tilt all you hear are some faint thuds.

I've got 3x of these a month or so ago. Drives had December 2022 to Feb 2023 mfg dates, so hours are very low. They have been good so far, fully tested. Can't comment on noise as my rackmount server fans are loud AF.

Serious Questions: What is a recertified, are they reliable. The warranty has been dropped quite a bit so one has to question it.

Regarding noise --- Seagate Exos in general are kinda loud, Dynamat in the PC case helps quite a bit though.

I had some good luck with these guys last year but the last 2 hard drives I've gotten from them one from Seagate and the other WD, both came DOA and this has been in the past week. I'm going back to new drives.
did they send you new drives in replacement under warranty?

Could mean anything. Maybe open item returns, probably drives that were previously heavily used in real servers for a while before they were sold off for whatever reason afterwards.

Personally I wouldn't buy a used drive unless it was 50%+ off. 20% off for used/questionable history drives is not worth it on an item so fragile/sensitive

I can confirm.. I'm copying to one right now. The noise isn't bad at all. I have mine in a 5 bay enclosure, with no sound dampening whatsoever. I have some older 14TB drives (shucked from WD easystores) that make the same amount of noise. The 18TB Ultrastar is on sale too.. not sure if they are quieter.

Test your drives! I ordered 2 refurbished 20tb drives and 1 of them failed SMART tests out of the box. They've been very responsive and are replacing the defective drive.
What did you use to test? Are you only doing a smart test?
