This thing seems to be listed as a "special deal" to expire 8/7, but the last time it expired (last weekend), the deal auto-renewed.

Bought this for my son, used the free shipping. It's a pretty good set, I think. Really nice mix of sockets, all 6-point and you get shallow and deep(ish) for all sizes in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive. Box is sturdy but kind of big. Not sure I'd want to lug this thing around a self-serve junkyard.

I ordered this set and got it shipped to store last week. Once I got it home I noticed the case was beat to hell and cracked in multiple places. It seems to be common with this set since the case is made so cheaply.

I talked to customer service and they reordered another one at 15% off to replace it so we will see if the new one is broken too.

The tools themselves looked to be decent though. This isn't something you would take around but probably fine to leave in your workspace. The case also doesn't have drawers so you need to pull out each shelf since they're stacked in the box.

No - that is one weakness of the set. Also the combo wrenches aren't much, 8, 10, 11, and 12mm I think plus four similar SAE sizes.

It has an assortment of 8mm hex drive bits, but I don't think even has a socket to drive them with, just the screwdriver.

I ordered it shipped to my home (free shipping). It came in a cardboard box that was just a little bit bigger than the plastic case, no padding between. No damage to my set and the cardboard box wasn't beat up, either. The plastic case seems pretty tough to me, it's certainly big and heavy.

The trays might be convenient if you have, for example, a roll around toolbox with sliding drawers. You could remove the trays from the box and drop them into the drawers. Or they might be convenient to grab and bring over to the part of the car you are working on.

There are a lot of $99 mechanics sets out there with 1/4-3/8-1/2 drive from Husky, Kobalt, or Craftsman. But I think they have been hit by shrinkflation, more filler and less of the large (expensive) stuff like 1/2" drive sockets.

A good comparison to this 226 piece set is the Dewalt 192-pc that goes on sale sometimes. The 192 has a more typical blow-molded case. It also has bit sockets and a better assortment of extensions and adapters. It's probably a better set, but I don't know if it has the same number of sockets.

Just a quick update. I got the second set and the box was fine, but this time the top tool holding shelf had a broken handle and one of the other shelves had a crack in it too. I think I'll just keep it at this point since I got it for 125 bucks after the discount.

It's dead -- up to $199. But for how long?
