If I may ask, did you just ask the delivery guy to wait while you unpacked and checked the piano and he volunteered to help? The piano is quite heavy and cumbersome so not easy to unpack and repack. Any tips for when its my turn to do the same is appreciated!
I'm at least going to insist they have two people available to bring in the box without tilting it on a dolly like they did last time.
I've been in touch with Kawai, and they insist that their products are adequately packaged and tested before being shipped to vendors. We're not talking minor scratches or blemishes here; the damage to the keys is so severe that I'd struggle to replicate it intentionally. I'd probably have to wedge a screwdriver under each key and hammer it to achieve the level of damage I observed. While poor handling during delivery could be a factor, it's hard to imagine how such damage could occur when the piano is still in its original packaging, showing no signs of external abuse.
I'm currently waiting to see how Kawai and Adorama will address this issue. As it stands, Kawai's handling of the situation leaves much to be desired and doesn't inspire confidence in their products.
I wanted to share my experience for the benefit of anyone who might read this thread in the future. I hope you're among the fortunate few who receive an undamaged piano.
