I've 3D printed adapters before, but usually ABS and also ok to get the job done. Haven't tried TPU yet, but I think that should work well.
I bought this Bosch at 394, but actually started return process yesterday because it was delivered damaged (crack in plastic housing at top), rebuying this at $350
The bosch hose works well with these Cen-tec ones (the one on the left)

First of all, Shop vac alone is not comparable to a dust extractor, should be shop-vac + HEPA filter + HEPA fleece Bag. It's not a good idea to use a barebone shopvac as a vacuum for an interior project.
Then, the dust extractor has an auto-start feature, i.e. plug power tool into the dust-extractor's power receptor and it will power on with tool. A greatly appreciated feature especially when working on a floor project, -- it's a big pain to stand up AGAIN to turn on the forgotten vacuum. As for shopvac, this feature can be made up with a dedicated vacumn power adapter for $30-$60.
The dust extrator's power is adjustable, which can minimize the chance to trigger the fuse.
I believe the noise level of dust extractor is lower than shop vac as well -- good for indoor project.
My personal experience is that when connected to "small" sander -- 4" belt sander, 5 inch palm sander, etc, there is no visible dust residue around after sanding.
It also greatly reduced dust when connected to 12" floor sheet sander as compared to its dust-bag.
Overall, compared to shopvac +HEPA, I recommend this for indoor DIY projects due to its all-in-one setup and lower noise. For outdoor or garagage work, shopvac +HEPA may be a more economical choice.
Finally, the current price of $350 for a name brand dust extractor is unbeatble. You don't need to worry about how effecient of dust extraction of a untested (variable) Shop-Vac +HEPA assembly, again, especially for interior projects.
