I have this and love it. I get the big can of peanuts from Costco then come home and portion into Mason jars. Have never had a problem with these not sealing correctly

There are better and some cheaper kits that come with a hand pump that are just as good.

rather than dragging out the foodsaver, can use the hand pump in a short time to give you a sealed chips, crackers whatever.

Thanks OP. Seems to be a better choice to keep coffee beans fresh than one of those Coffee Gator canisters that show up on SD every now and then. (And I have a Foodsaver pump already)

This comes with a hose with connectors for a foodsaver. I cut it in half and hooked up my own pump. I'm fond of cheap 6v or 12v pumps. The 6v are convenient because you can power them from a regular USB port.

So you can't use this manually? You need a foodsaver or similar vacuum pump?

Correct. This directs the vacuum to the right parts of the jar, so it can get around the lid and to the inside. It's essentially a step up from pointing a vacuum hose at a jar and praying the air leaves it.

Works great on the wide mouth mason jars when I press my own juice.

Beats me to it. If yours have a green ribbed tip, it won't fit

Wow, I didn't know this was a thing but I need it. Now I can get rid of the plastic vacuum sealing containers I have. Ordered.

Anybody ever tried lactofermenting in jars vacuum sealed this way? I know it's more popular to use vacuum bags, jars with airlocks, or jars with brine, but I feel like this could be another option - as long as you stop the ferment before the CO2 explodes.

I have a foodsaver with a handheld sealer for special containers, will this work with that? I think it's v4400

I love my foodsaver but I never tried the containers. I like salsa and I buy these pretty big salsa jars for cheap but they always seem to spoil pretty quickly. I got to chug a bunch of salsa before it gets moldy. I find myself throwing a lot of salsa in the garbage. I think this would help. Not sure what are quick spoiling items that I would use this for though.

* I am looking for a port on my food saver and couldn't find it but then I finally noticed a pull out air hose at the very bottom. All these years and I never noticed that pull out air hose.

* Clean out your drip tray regularly. I opened the food saver trying to look for the air hose and noticed the drip tray was pretty nasty and needed a cleaning. Wipe down the the plastic levers as well. When the foodsaver is working perfectly fine, it could be easy to forget that it needs a good cleaning at times.

So how does one know the jar is indeed vacuum sealed? It's pretty obvious with the vacuum bags but I haven't seen or done mason jars yet.
