Seeing these deals everyday now. All around $100. These shoes don't compare with established giants in price. I would say this is not a deal unless it comes down to $50ish.

Hokas any day. Or Saucony, Brooks, NB. Depends on what you are looking for

Yep On sucks. The sole 'pods' flatten out quickly and overall lasts the shortest of any true running shoe brand. Plus all others you mentioned make support shoes for pronation or supination. On only makes neutral shoes. They do not want the business of people with complex feet or who need arch support etc.

It really depends on what you like and your gait. I have both Hokas and On and wouldn't run in either. They are just my "out and about" shoes. I like distance, and the hokas are too heavy for me while the On I have feel awesome for walking but no padding for tired old knees/ankles smacking the pavement for 8+ miles. I know people that run in both an love them. My preferred runner right now is still the Brooks Adrinaline 20s, but since I had a hard time finding those I am in the ASICS GT-3000s for now. When I switch shoes for running I always go get fitted. Most places let you try the shoes n the store as well, which helps.

Bottom line: go get fitted. The shoe that works for me or anyone else most likely won't be the same that works for you.

Edit: Something else that people never talk about…socks. I was shocked to see what a good running sock cost. Then I happened to buy a pair of Balegas in a discount bin and it changed my world. Now my wife says I have a sock fetish. I run on Balega socks, but my daily sock is the Smartwool brand. It's like getting a little hug for you feet on every step.

Not really. Running shoes aren't made with durability in mind as they're meant to be used on a road/track. For trail use, you can find proper trail running shoes for this price. My favorite are the Saucony Peregrine but a specific shoe is dependent on your feet.

Any running store should be able to. I was told by an employee at a running that I have beautiful arches.

As for socks, injinjis changed my life. Haven't gotten a blister in probably like 10 years.

I personally love my On shoes for casual wear as they are very lightweight. I don't recommend them for hiking as small rocks can get stuck in the openings on the sole.

I LOVE Balega socks because I am a mail lady and their blister resist aocks are so helpful and they are really well constructed . I have only tried the blister resist because that is what I need it for. I haven't tried their other styles or thinner running versions.

I've had these for about a month and love them for daily runs and gym training. My old shoe was the Brooks Adrenaline but they must have done something to the materials/design because when I tried a new pair they just weren't doing it, so I decided to get fitted at a running store. These are very responsive and have a lot of arch support, so if you have flat feet or low arches you will want to look elsewhere.

In Jacksonville I go to 1st Place Sports on Baymeadows Rd. Most running-themed stores will do it. Some have you run on a treadmill, some let you run outside. In all cases they should be filming your strides. They should also ask you questions like:
  1. Injuries you have had or have
  2. Preference on weight
  3. Preference on cusion
  4. Distance you run
  5. Surface you run on

The end result is they should be able to tell you what shoes would work best for your foot strike. If you go to an actual running store 90% of the people working there are also runners. At least the places I go to are like that.

Word of caution: It is expensive to buy shoes there. I usually get fitted for a pair, then just find replacements online cheaper. You are supposed to replace your shoes every 300mi-500mi, so at $120-$300+ a pair (depending on what you end up with) it can add up quickly if you are putting a lot of milage behind you. A good example is my current Asics I got from 1st Place Sports ran me $130, but I live near an outlet mall and was able to get 2 more pair at BOGO for another $90. So I have 3 pair of the same shoe that should last me at least a year. At one point I was running > 50mi a week and replacing shoes every 2 to 3 months, so having a way to lessen the blow was essential. Now I am doing about 31mi a week, so I can make a pair last me about 4mo to 6mo before I have to turn them into lawn shoes.
