Winner of the 1964 Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction

Anti-Intellectualism in American Life is a book which throws light on many features of the American character. Its concern is not merely to portray the scorners of intellect in American life, but to say something about what the intellectual is, and can be, as a force in a democratic society.

"As Mr. Hofstadter unfolds the fascinating story, it is no crude battle of eggheads and fatheads. It is a rich, complex, shifting picture of the life of the mind in a society dominated by the ideal of practical success." —Robert Peel in the Christian Science Monitor

It's a 250 year country with a providential belief in its exceptionalism. Er, that means awesomeness.

Good luck selling this because the majority of the population is also functionally illiterate with reading and writing skills below high school level. Facts.

Did you miss the part where they admit to lying about the election? A functional brain would help you wonder what else they lie about. Vaccines probably

The audience for a book at that intersection would probably be around 17 people.

They're not illiterate, just too deep into covering up their severely buried insecurities with bravado to *ever* allow themselves to appear vulnerable by even *considering* allowing for the possibility they might be wrong about something.

If they're lacking in education, it's in the areas of human psychology and self-awareness.

And yet there are people that believe intellectualism requires setting aside science, facts, and common sense to believe only and exactly what the government and it's approved 'experts' say to believe. Given the quick definition of the word is "the exercise of the intellect at the expense of the emotions", it's curious how a group that rules only by emotion thinks they can lay claim to the word. But then we've seen many definitions over the past couple of decades change to suit political need.

The fact this book came out in 1963 and people get upset about it and it's title says a lot about today's America.

Define what you would consider an expert that contradicts those viewpoints. I'll wait for you to discredit yourself.

Like I basically said earlier, they'd practically rather die than risk admitting they were wrong, and looking/feeling like the fools anyone with even a modicum of rationality know they are already. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't so effing dangerous.

A good read is "Tyranny of Merit" which I recommend to those wanting to understand where the populist movement is originating in the US and across the world. Basically they are pushing back on not fitting into the ridiculous meritocracy system where we don't respect the average human being. Even the Dalai Lama states that taking the dignity of common work from a person isn't a good thing.

Tldr push animals or people into a corner and they'll bite, whether its in their interest or not
