Just keep in mind this is not a monoprice version of the Fender/Squier Jaguar or Mustang. Monoprice doesn't have as many tone controls and is a totally different instrument.

This is essentially a HSS Strat with a different shape.

You raise several good points:

They are arriving needing nothing.

The nuts should be correct. Perhaps they can make a deal with the makes of TUSQ nuts and just include them. But if I can do super easy stuff myself to get these prices then it's a win and SLICK DEAL.

I think a beginner player should begin learning how to super setup their own guitars and what is required to be able to do that. All the fine balances; where the nut is pivotal. I didn't say build one from scratch.

And Start players need to know you can set up a basic FLOATING Trem to fall back into tune; no problems. You do not need to buy around it or use a dumb, cheaply made hard-tail.
TUSQ nuts out of the box would be nice, but Monoprice doesn't make these guitars. They're made by Thomann Music. For those that don't know, Thomann music is the largest online instrument retailer in the world. They're not as popular in the US because Guitar Center corners the market here, but they're huge in Europe and elsewhere. These guitars are their "Harley Benton" models, except Thomann leaves that little "hook" on the headstock when cutting them to differentiate them from their own line. They're then shipped from Thomann's main warehouse in Germany to Monoprice in California where they do a final inspection and setup on them. Monoprice's amps are also rebranded Harley Benton amps. They're tube amps are fantastic for the price, especially when they're on sale.
Edit: I guess Monoprice could ask Thomann to put TUSQ nuts on them, but they would probably have to raise the price a little. These guitars are already priced pretty close to what it costs to make them.

I'm aware most guitars come out of very few relative factories usually. This is why we take each own it's own quality and seller ACTUAL return policy, without concern with branding labels or usually from where it was made.

Squires for $250 and way up are the same quality class as $51 guitars with VERY little actual variation. Basswood which is light weight and a fine choice. Many $500 guitars are NOT better. Around $300 and up can have fancy finishes; but play no better, once super set up. It's about brand, myth, signatures, weird pups, custom colors and sometimes unnecessary whim add-ons. And premium prices for other than Strats and Tele's; which were designed out the 50's gate to be easy to manufacture and switch inexpensive necks.

Years past has left us with bad many copies still circulating. Current makers got the memo. Quality counts. And they use modern manufacturing to do it.

Any FRESH made guitar can have some things to tend. Either fixable or not. The fixable ones are easy. If frets are not as completely smooth as you want then smooth them. It can be a matter of tastes. Put Ernie Ball 9's on a Strat and make sure they are stretched in before complaining. The neck can bend with changing humidity during shipment or season change.

$51 guitars are coming setup enough; but one can always perfect it. They are not going to spend an week tweaking your guitar to your exact needs. You are. If you want store setup then pay for it, and again, and again, and again....

This does not mean you are buying a raw kit to assemble. Nor does it mean a piece of sand paper will kill you. Do you have any idea how many $750 guitar buyer are going through the exact same issues(WITH FRESH ones)? And boy are they peeved. LOL.

And the kicker is if you want lazy then you can buy one of the DLX models from Monoprice for only $125 or so, as an alternative to $500+ guitars. With overly heavy Ash (Ash weight varies).

There are two strat types on ebay for $51 SHIPPED, right now. White and Red burst. They may need a $10 TUSQ nut to be perfect; but so what? $61 !!!!!

If they put TUSQ nuts they wouldn't have to raise the price a little, but "a lot". Granted the TUSQ nut is only $16 but it's all about perceived value in marketing and sales. So that $16 upgrade would up the price $60.

This is why it makes sense for those who want an amazing instrument on the cheap to become a beginner guitar tech. Or just pay the $60 extra for the $16 part. Lol.

I ordered this and it came in looking quite beautiful for <$100.

Well, I'd be careful mixing-up simple tuning of ones own guitar and even basic things related, with having to build one up or do a lot of unnecessary alterations.

It's doubtful a MP classic strat or Tele type guitar needs a new nut or anything much. And the case covers are thick.

My eBay guitar benefited from a new TUSQ nut (cost be 89 cents with points off $10); just because a new part was smarter than hacking the nut it came with. Which I could have easily done in a few minutes. The TUSQ was drop and done. With a little height adjustment underneath. It's just you go easy getting an over glued old nut out.

You see the very fine balancing act of T.R.I.A.N x3 (Action, no buzz, Tremolo) greatly benefits from a proper nut.

To be clear; MP guitars are not needing new TUSQ nuts. And you are right; if all guitars came with TUSQ nuts then it could cost a lot more. But I believe it could be done for less than $10 more.
