It looks like the same deal is available for the model with the paddle switch so does anyone know if there is any difference in those models other than switch vs slide and also what is everyone's personal preference?

I like the switch.
I found that sometimes it was awkward to hold the paddle in some tight spaces and keep it on as I work...
I also find the "safety trigger" to be difficult sometimes on the paddle style

I've been considering both for ... a while... waiting for a sale like this. My primary grinder is a corded Metabo variable speed and my thinking was that the paddle would be better because if I'm grabbing the cordless, it is probably for cordless convenience. IE, relatively quick jobs where the paddle switch would be better. My Metabo has the lock on switch which I generally like as it allows you to change how you hold the tool without it turning off.
FWIW, I did mod my Metabo with a significantly longer (Dewalt branded) cord which, imho, is an important feature on a lot of corded tools. I honestly don't understand why so many corded tools come with ~6ft cords.

The extension cord cartels put a lot of pressure on tool manufacturers to keep the stock cords short so they can sell more extension cords...
This is a DEAL because the slide locks NEVER go on sale. I waited for literally years, before I paid full price for a slide lock because I can't stand the paddle switch. A full project of grinding in an awkward position with a paddle switch will make you hate life.
I just ordered another one to keep a flap disk on.
Go ahead and search "2889-20" on SD and you'll see how rare this is...

I just purchased this because of your post. Was deciding between the two. Now need a charger lol
This thing will chew through a 12 amp battery in about 15 minutes
I guess it depends on what you are doing with it but I will say that I have this model and 2 5.0 amp batteries and they normally last an entire day of off and on grinding and cutting metals less than 1/4 inch thick.
