and all that chrome / polished metal stuff, and all that stuff is so packed and close to each other, looks like it was just slapped on there, by some schlub in his garage.

Maybe when you were young, but 40th squiers are made in Indonesia, I have some.

FYI: Indonesia is a Chinese ally as well. They will fight with China when the time comes.
Squiers are of course made by some part of the Fender corp, but they are not considered "Fenders" by musicians, so a lot of people clicked on these links, said "oh, they're Squires, not Fenders", and moved on.
For whatever reason, it's perfectly acceptable to show up with an Epiphone (Gibson's low end sub-brand), but bringing out your Squire gets a different reaction. Not going to validate that, but just an observation. Even on Fender's website, they segregate them, the headings say:
- Guitars
- Acoustics
- Bases
- Amps
- Accessories
- Squiers
which is odd, almost like even Fender it going to some lengths to differentiate that they're not actual Fender guitars.
So I am not pooping on them or the deal (I own an old Squier tele which is very playable but a bit weak and non-Tele sounding), but there are plenty of other entry level guitars that IMO can compete for $350 (my SD'd $90 Monoprice tele, once I filed the razor fret edges, sounds nicer than my Squier ), and there's no brand-only value for a Squier (one is arguably buying a Fender for the name)
so this is not particularly slick IMO and it would save folks some time to put "Squier" in the title so they know what this really is about

Yeah because they need to keep their brands distinct, otherwise nobody would buy a mia fender Stratocaster for 4x what a squire costs. Sure the mia is better. Max 2x though. I have miA fenders, but I keep thinking, nah, I'd rather have 4 squiers. Cool active jazz master bass…contemporary strat…40th tele, etc.
All I know is when you buy the cheapest you are rarely happy.

There are levels within Squire and Epiphone too. I owned a decent Squire and a high end Epiphone Prophecy with 490 Gibson pickups and the difference in quality, sound and playability are very noticeable. I bet there are some great Squires out there.
