Most people sit way too far from their TVs to have optimal viewing. Money aside, many would actually be better off with a screen this size. A screen this size should be about 6-12.5 ft. from a person's eyes. At 6 feet it will still be viewable, but it's will be kind of like IMAX where you have to look around a bit.
This goes for many electronics. I'm in the Sony reddit and it's full of same stories. You sell a ton of TVs you gonna have tons of failures reported, especially in "support groups". Most of the internals for all TVs are made in one of a few factories. Sony and Samsung ordering the similar parts from the same places.
While I agree with your point about all brands having some inevitable failures and upset customers, I have to correct the "similar parts" generalization.
While the parts may have the same function, (capacitors, power circuits, etc) there is a huge difference in quality options among choices that manufactures select. Generally speaking higher end TVs from Sony and Samsung will use more robust components. Can they still fail? Of course. Are the cheap Chinese component options "good enough" to last in most cases? At this point it's looking like it they're maybe closing the gap. But I'm sure they still fail in higher % terms.

How many of you think this will really go lower by year end? I'm building a new house that will be done around January, and want this tv for my new house (it is too big for the apartment we're living in while building). I'm debating whether to buy this now or hold out for a better deal. Thoughts?

I wouldn't buy now if you can't use it now. What if it's DOA in the box? You wouldn't know for 5 months and then wouldn't be able to return/exchange it. Although I guess warranty would still cover it. Plus you have to store it and move it. I would just wait. Black Friday/Christmas/Super Bowl sales will likely have this at the same price or maybe lower.

Hold bro. You know electronics, it will get cheaper by time. Plus new home builds always have delays.
98'' is way too damn big and it's only a LCD. You'd need to truly have a large room with great seating. Why waste space and home energy? At that rate, may as well just get a great projector....
No its not, tons of people have 100" screens for their projector. Why get an LCD over a projector?
1) Less noise
2) Simpler install (no routing cables across the room)
3) Better performance in high brightness living rooms
This is certainly also an option for home use for those with the means that prefer size over quality, which is actually the majority of people that would rather have a 85" LCD over a 50" OLED even though the latter probably looks nicer.
I would stay away from the Google TV versions. Google TV doesn't support multiple profiles, and if you are on an app with it paused for a certain amount of time, Google will close it and go back to the home screen. This has been a big hassle when I pause a show to go into the kitchen and then come back and have to reload the app, and then restart the episode again. I am a Google ecosystem user, and have been disappointed in the basic features that the Google TV OS is missing. The Roku OS is much better.

Really want to get this tv. Can anyone confirm there are 2 HDMI 2.1 ports?
If this could play my Xbox at 4k 120hz I would be all over this but it does not have HDMI 2.1
I don't own this TV but one review shows the Xbox can run at 4K 120hz. From Amazon's reviews, a Walter Wu says:
Checks every 4K compatibility feature on the XBox X

There are some false reviews written for this TV. I was trying to decide between this and an ultra-short throw projector for my media room, but none of the projectors can meet all of the XBox X 4K compatilivitymcheck features. One of the Amazon reviews here says it cannot but after checking the recviews and posts on the AVS Forum confirming that this TV does, I ended up buying it. Just see my attached photo showing that the TV indeed has a green check mark, next to every feature on the TV check in the settings menu. Furthermore, I got the an ISF calibration of the TV, and it looks amazing. Absolutely great humongous TV.
