IMO it's worth spending $7 more to protect a potential $1000 product.

I don't normally care about brand name but Pelican is legendary and I have thoroughly tested this in a swimming pool. It didn't even let 1 drop of water in!

For anybody interested, this phone pouch/case is great. I bought the 2 pack during prime day. I've used it for hours; 3 times in the ocean and twice in a pool. No leaks or issues whatsoever. It has flotation built in so that's a nice feature my old pouch didn't have. The pelican pouch kept an iPhone 12 Pro at the surface in ocean waves

Not sure how this is a good price. It usually is around this price with little discounts here and there. The 4 pack is $9 each after the 10% normal discount running.

The H2OGO ones from Walmart for $6 each are similar design, but more see through material, and have worked perfectly for me for years in lots of water environments.

I'll agree with the generics, I think this is a case of Pelican reinventing a wheel just to put their name on it for higher margins. They make plenty of great cases, this just isn't one where I'd spend it. But at this price, the gap is closed a little bit.

Do those have floatation built into the pouch? That was the reason I upgraded to this from my old pouch

I bought a two pack from amazon for $9 and took them on a snorkeling trip. Not letting in water isn't that hard of an accomplishment from a bag.

Agreed. A low price doesn't necessarily mean a good value, just as a high price doesn't necessarily mean a poor value.

Many premium items relatively excel in performance, longevity, reliability, and time and/or cost savings that more than justifies their premium.

I have a flashlight I spent $60 on 8 years ago...but it's still more efficient than many modern lights, it's been dropped in puddles, raked on concrete, caked with dirt, etc...but it works flawlessly, the lens is crystal clear because it's sapphire coated, it's actually waterproof, the light is high CRI and gives better color and depth perception which means something to any that know what that means...worth every penny.

I've had $30 pocket knives that dull in 2-3 months of regular use, but I also have a $250 knife with a lifetime warranty (real lifetime warranty) that is still sharp enough to shave with after 18 months of use.

I have a friend with 3-4 old android phones that were retired for a multitude of reasons...hardware failure, poor performance, lack of OS and security updates, unreliable connectivity, etc...meanwhile my iphone is still superior in all respects and works better than their most recent replacement device.

It's a consumer philosophy. I'm a pragmatic minimalist. Buying high value goods helps me declutter and simplify my life, what I do have is easier to find, is of higher utility and reliability, lower overall cost long term, and I help protect the environment from inefficiency and unnecessary waste in the process.

That old saying comes to mind...one can go bankrupt trying to save money.
