It's all made by Warren Distribution. They make Kirkland, Super Tech, Amazon, and many other private label brands. It's good stuff.

Why would you ever need to do an emergency oil change?

This is great... except I was planning on doing an oil change this weekend - kinda need it done before the 31st.

Hmmm... now I have to decide if the Slickdealer in me is willing to wait and book up my 30th like that.
You can buy now and price match later. They will refund you for the different.

$3/qt, is that a good deal these days? I usually look for closer to around $1/qt. My 3yr free oil changes is going to come to and end soon on my car so it's been a while since I've purchased oil. I guess everything's more expensive these days.
It is not good price.
The same Kirkland oid was $2 per qt. ( $22 for 10 qt) .
Some occasional other brands such as Shell ,Valvoline etc. sells at much cheaper price

This looks like a repost from the Costco monthly coupon book thread. I'm glad we don't have a separate thread for each individual coupon 🤣

Funny…

I take mine to the dump for free. Walmart (and pretty much anyone else selling oil) will take it for free.
Why give it to Walmart? They have enough money. I own the mineral rights on my property. (some folks just can't pick up on sarcasm...they just get triggered...it's fun setting them off) Smilie

Your engines take 5.7qts of oil when using a new filter. Roughly 5.4qts if you don't change the filter.

You're saying that you only are putting 5qts in at a time and it's showing midway in the hatchmarks?

<~~~~has a 2019 Odyssey
Exactly.

Take published capacities with a grain of salt, they're not based on actual oil changes but instead theoretical capacities on CAD models.

I could tell you how I changed the ATF in the Pilot - everything online said I only needed 4Q, as about 1.5Q (IIRC) or so is hung up in various cavities in the transmission itself. Dealer also said only 4Q (and they have various types of ATF, even the same model/year will have different ATF or capacity depending on the engine type or even casting, so the dealer knows best here) . Also, you need to use OE ATF, so basically if you're doing the job on a weekend, you need to be sure to have all the ATF on hand because you're not going to run out to the dealer (closed) to grab more. I bought 6Q just for the heck of it (and the shit is not cheap, like $15+/qt). After gravity draining, the transmission actually gave up 5Q, and yes I am sure it was "full" both before and after (fortunately the Pilot still has a dipstick for ATF unlike the Odyssey, which doesn't (I also changed the ATF in that )). Even though I didn't need to, I actually measured what came out with a graduated cylinder (without a dipstick it's the easier method to be sure that the transmission is filled to the correct level). If I'd stuck to "what the manual says" I would have been up shit creek doing that on a Sunday!

Did you do thw transmission yourself?

Yes. It was a stick, so manual transmissions are mostly drain and fill plugs, and you just fill until it overflows.

I changed the ATF in our Pilot and Odyssey. In the Odyssey because it called for it (OBDC maintenance codes) and the Pilot because the transmission was exhibiting a very characteristic behaviour whose resolution is to change the ATF.

The Pilot was easier to do because it has a dipstick, so making sure you have the correct level is easier, but I still measured what came out and put that amount back in. The Odyssey doesn't have a dipstick. You're supposed to let it get to a certain temperature then use the fill port as an overflow (which is in a wheel well, great spot NOT), but I just filled with what I took out.

Changing ATF really is about as simple as changing engine oil, except there's generally not a filter to change. It's just more expensive that's all.

Autozone cleared out Idemitsu a couple years ago. Of course it was highly YMMV and only a brief B&M sale, but I bought a bunch for a Subaru. And K-Mart clearance Super S at $1 a quart once, when K-Mart was still a thing. So yeah, pretty rare.

I've heard that some Walmarts carry an 0W-40 or 5W-40 Supertech Euro oil, but I've never seen it.

Wow! I looked under my Audi q5 and it's a lot of tools that I need to purchase for the occasional replacement of transmission oil.
How frequently do you do it?
