Drives get stamp/marked Recertified , also gets a new label to what appeared to be from Seagate .
SMART data gets zero out..
They are louder than traditional drives.. worth the buy.. $9.74/ TB
Satisfaction Guarantee: Return for refund within 30 days of package reception date.
SO test the drive as soon as you get it..
I used the Seagate software that creates a bootable VM (tinycore) with the SeaTools GUI
LInk [seagate.com]
Short test and Then long test. (27 hours)

LONG test checks the entire disk surface. 18TB is a lot to drive to that takes a while.
In my experience buying used drives, 2 of the bad ones I've had to RMA had defects picked up by the SHORT test. The long test uncovered an issue with the last one so IMO, its worth the extra hassle. Personal Sample size: 150-200 drives.
PS. I do this for ALL drives (new/used) I've bought. SW exists in both linux (smartmontools) and windows (HDDSCAN)

the short test takes about 3 mins while the long took me over 27hrs.
A more comprehensive test would running badblocks with "Read-write test (destructive)"
Link [archlinux.org]
In windows you can run "H2testw" (also 27hrs for 18tb drive).. writes and then reads those files.
For new or used drives... I like to test them within the 30 return window. You never know if there is a bad sector and where it is located at. 18TB is a lot of information/ data. HDD can fail at anytime but at least I can say I tested them before using them with live data. I have several copies of my most important data.
Drive is slow and loud.
not as bad as the legendary quantum fireball 5.25 (anyone else remember those)
but terrible compared to a... toshiba mg10 etc.
Copying from a toshiba 5tb to the new 16TB seagate was 87-150MB/s 16 hours
doing same test to MG10 20TB took 10.75 hours.
Not sure why the seagate was so slow it would burst up to near 200MB but never sustain.
The MG10 was 187-200MB for decent chunks of time.
I had to doublecheck to make sure the seagate was CMR not shingled.
based on that experience I'd hesitate to buy a seagate exos.

Both of our accounts are kinda moot, though. No manufacturer is free from defects. So only a decent data set/ number of instances really matters.

Does this bode well for this black friday?

I can't comment on the Ironwolf Pro but the Exos should have sequential read/write speeds of ~150-275MB/s (similar to the WD Ultrastar).
