Yes you can. I got an old 1/4 ratchet replaced a few weeks back. The clerk at the register had no idea how to do it though.
Unless they've changed their policies, that clerk didn't know policy and I bet it was somebody very young that didn't know craftsman existed long before he/she was born.

How is this in comparison? As have bad experiences with eBay.

Limited-time deal: CRAFTSMAN VERSASTACK Socket Set, 71-Piece Mechanic Tool Set, 1/4" and 3/8" Drive, SAE/Metric (CMMT45071) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08WV1CFZD

Are you able to get these sets warrantied at Lowes?

Only if they carry that model, I brought in an older model 3/8 ratchet and they wouldn't do the warranty because they didn't carry it.

I agree. When I had to replace 2 ratchets. 2 workers told me that they don't do craftsman warranty and had to go through manufacturer. One told me they could then turned around and said couldn't. Then a manager came and took care of it in 2 mins. They even upgraded my 3/8" ratchet since they didn't have the same one for free. Toon me maybe 45 mins for the whole process..

I switched from craftsman some years ago. I've been buying husky whenever I can from Home Depot. Better store, lifetime guarantee with no lip on their tools. Lowes has gone downhill since the CEO of Home Depot took over Lowe's. They got crappy with the return policy too. They won't warrantee craftsman tools unless you have proof of purchase from them.
Yup, yup. Forgot about Lowes not wanting to exchange broken stuff without proof of purchase, or just flat out refusing to exchange it.

Good catch.

I've gotten a couple of the Ace hardware craftsman sets (which I believe aren't USA made) to have as travel tools. The newer ratchets are far nicer than their old style ones IMO. I ended up putting my old style ratchets in my travel box and use the 1/4 and 3/8 ones.

They closed the Texas plant, so will not be more made in USA ones for long. Soon to be collectors items.
The made in USA ones have a special box that say made in USA.

And they make it very difficult to get the USA sets - I ordered mine for store pickup, and it was cancelled without an explanation after I received an email that it was ready for a pickup. Local Lowes do crap like this all the time, which is why I rarely shop there now.

It would be nice to know what the specialty bits are. This could be a nice car kit, but my car has torx screws all over.

All true except the part about Home Depot CEO taking over Lowes. Mr. Ellison was never CEO he got passed over.

Reviewers have indicated the Texas sets are arriving with incomplete chrome finish and rust on the exposed metal.

Made in USA is not necessarily better and that appears to be the case with these Taiwan sets versus the Texas plant's sets.

Stanley Black & Decker, who holds the license to make all of the Craftsman products you see outside of the few surviving Sears stores, tried to automate as much of the production in the Texas plant as they could. But they failed to reach the volume they wanted, and evidently the quality was lacking too. It's not like SBD doesn't know how to produce in the US: their Proto hardline tools are US made, but the brand is marketed to industry and carries premium pricing.

taiwan is free china, and I believe they're trying to follow japan and south korea model for prosperity.and I remember when all kinds of junk was labeled "made in taiwan" We're seeing the transformation into higher end tools in the last 5-10 years. Gearwrench , dewalt, Icon come to mind
