Updated 8/30/2023:

They now have the 128GB version [totalbyverizon.com] for $99.99. You can just buy the phone from Total by Verizon and activate it on Tracfone's cheapest plan for $15/month ($10 with auto refill) to start the 60 days unlock clock. (FYI, the sim card comes with the phone can be used to activate the Tracfone service)

*****************************

Total by Verizon just reduced their iPhone SE 2nd generation from $149.99 to $99.99 [totalbyverizon.com].

Similar to other Tracfone deals. The phone will be unlocked automatically after 60 days since activation. You only need to pay one month of service, not 2 months. I just got my iPhone SE 3nd generation unlocked from the previous front page deal.

Phone $99.99 + $30 1 month of service = $129.99 plus taxes.

This may not be as fast as the iPhone SE 3nd gen for $149.99 but should be better if you don't want to spend extra for back up.

According to Apple, the SE 2020 has a 13 hour video playback vs SE 2022 at 15 hours so not much of a difference. The 5G is a good add for sure but that's only a benefit if 5G network is available and with Verizon, their 4G/LTE network is larger.
means absolutely nothing in day to day usage it's battery last significantly longer than 2nd gen. Own and use 2 of each. I can run intense apps like Waze, hotspot and Bluetooth speaker and drop like 20% in 2 hours on 3rd gen on 2nd gen I'd be under 50% and all using LTE vs 5g. The 3rd gen is just a better phone period

Has 2 generation new CPU and 1 extra GB of RAM. SE 2022 is literally $20 more. Why the heck wouldn't you. I got the SE 22 as a backup 2 months ago for $149. Yesterday it was unlocked. I kept it off in a drawer for about 55 days. Charged it all the way to 100. Kept it on Wi-Fi for the next 5 days. Once it hit 60 it was unlocked by Apple servers.
The only problem I have with this phone is it's just such an old design that's so boring and outdated. If the iPhone 11 on total by Verizon dropped to $149 that would be worth it. Yes it would be 2 generation older chip but it would have the same 4gb ram and a way more modern design with face ID and way better battery life.
It's well known that 5G sucks more battery juice and on these SE's, it's a bit more of an issue. modern design? Go for the fold phone if that's your criteria. From Ookla: "Ookla® Speedtest Intelligence® data shows that smartphone users accessing 5G networks experience higher battery drain than for those using 4G-LTE, of between 6% and 11%, depending on the System on Chip (SoC) in their device".

SE 2022 has around 10% more battery capacity than 2020, which is the biggest gripe with that model. Given 2020 is with 11 internals and 2022 is with 13 internals and 5g capable, it's worth the $20 difference to get the newer one which will get a couple of more years of software updates when 2020 stays back (possibly with iOS 17).

FWIW, you can let the phone stay connected to 4G/LTE and not go on 5G to conserve battery if drain is a concern.

So after a month should be able to use this on the Verizon post paid network? Do I have to call to get them to unlock?

Been trying to convince my cheap boomer father in law to upgrade his iPhone 7 but he's of the mindset that if it's not broken why get a new one.
Not a good deal. Walmart had the newest SE for Verizon $180 a few months ago. Not sure if that deal is still ongoing but it doesn't make sense to buy this when the new model has been sold for not much more and works right away on Verizon.

I recently purchased se 2022 from target and activated it in total byVerizon thru call center, when i am sending unlock to 611611 it says "get in touch with manufacturer"….also the device is showing unrecognizable on my login
Any suggestions to fix it? Also will it unlock?

I am guessing the fact that se 2020 was used for longer caused its battery to drain quicker and enhanced your favor in se 2022. Online tests indicate battery life difference is only around 5 - 10% better for 2022. I have the 2020 for less than three years and the battery health dropped below 78% and it sucks further.

Nope battery is at 100 on all versions. The 3rd generation just handles battery drain better period

FYI - TracFone website has refurb iPhone 11 for $165 (plus purchase of 30 day plan required) if anyone is interested in a larger screen or for later trade-in.
I've bought several in past year (& resold) - all were like new.
What battery health were the iphone 11's you purchased?

Probably a stupid question, but would these work with a GSM network. Specs only mention CDMA.

I saw that too! But you can use the Total by Verizon sim card come with the phone.

Got my phone yesterday. It came with a Total by Verizon sim card.

I purchased the Tracfone $10 with auto refill (without autorefill it is $15) on Tracfone website using the phone's IMEI. FYI, it asked for the first IMEI associated with the physical SIM card slot, not the second IMEI which is associated with the eSim. My line was showing active on my Tracfone account but my phone shows no service without a physical sim.

I called Tracfone support this morning. The rep got asked me to use the Total by Verizon Sim. He got the Sim card number and asked me to restart the phone. Then my phone can make calls.

Tracfone FAQ says iPhone SE 3rd gen can be activated using eSim. Does it mean iPhone SE 2nd gen will have to use a physical sim card from Tracfone?

The price difference is $50 without any plan. Depends on the usage, the SE 2020 can still serve some people well. It has relatively newer CPU and long software update.

For backup phone or light phone users, they use wifi mostly and charge the phone at night.
5G and the battery playback hours are not deal breaker but $50 can be with 1/3 of the savings.

Both versions have the same design, iPhone SE users put the small form factor on top of other things.
