Recently switched one to USMobile (100 day free plan), mainly because we planned to do a lot more rural traveling this year and USM has hotspot + prioritization (both are lacking on TF). Hotspot allowed me to work on some projects while traveling in an RV.

First, a sim card is $4.99, not $.99, maybe it was on sale in the past, but others cannot duplicate this price going forward.
Second, the free calling and text requires a wifi connection, it does not work w/o a premium plan. This is the same service that Google Voice offers, but GV has been around for almost 2 decades, so to keep a number w them is a better bet than textnow, which is a relatively small newcomer. The free slow 2g data only comes with ad free and dataplan, which is not free every month.
Theres a slight chance that your sim got provisioned w the benefits attached w/o a premium plan, and these mistakes happen, especially on smaller carriers that may hire employees that dont pay attention to details. Their official policy suggests it should not be free.
