I just want to correct some info here, since your username is similar to another org that promotes a lot of half-truths.

First, a sim card is $4.99, not $.99, maybe it was on sale in the past, but others cannot duplicate this price going forward.

Second, the free calling and text requires a wifi connection, it does not work w/o a premium plan. This is the same service that Google Voice offers, but GV has been around for almost 2 decades, so to keep a number w them is a better bet than textnow, which is a relatively small newcomer. The free slow 2g data only comes with ad free and dataplan, which is not free every month.

Theres a slight chance that your sim got provisioned w the benefits attached w/o a premium plan, and these mistakes happen, especially on smaller carriers that may hire employees that dont pay attention to details. Their official policy suggests it should not be free.

Thank you for commenting. I know nothing about anyone with a similar screen name. I did pay $0.99 for my SIM and see that the price has now increased. I think you may be correct that WiFi (and data) must be turned on but an available WiFi connection is not required. I have used the service far from available WiFi with only cell bars for T-Mobile showing.
I do not have, nor have I ever had a premium service. My only payment has been a one-time $0.99 a few years ago.
Here is a YT review confirming the nature of the service as I have described it. If they have made additional changes to their services in the interim, I've never been so informed by TN.

Thanks. Please be sure to confirm the compatibility of your unlocked phone. Another couple of "tips": Download and install the most recent version of the TN app. The SIM will come with precise instructions for changes to your phone's settings. I made a stupid mistake when installing mine and had to call CS. The rep. was very helpful. You'll activate it and select your free phone # on their web site, of course. Good luck.

The SIM card is $4.99 but Ive seen it on sale for 99-cents a few times and even Free.

It's kinda like GV were you get a phone number and you can text and call for free over a data connection but TextPlus is heavily AD supported and if you get their SIM card it connects to an MVNO (T-Mobile) even on the free plan and you can Text and Call. Again, you do not need a premium plan to text and call. If you want 2G data for things other than calling and texting from the TextPlus app then you need premium plan. Also, if you are on the Free plan and don't use the service for 30 consecutive days, you will lose your number.
