I you don't need real-time, you get far better quality using a CPU encoder. HW accelerated encodes are fine for streaming, but if you want to archive media you should spend the extra time for the best output.
I agree, and I currently use CPU h.265 encoding for my media library for just that reason.

But AV1 has the potential to be such a step up in image quality that it's no longer necessary, and CPU AV1 encoding is so time/resource/power hungry that it really doesn't make sense with current hardware. I even feel bad at times letting my 12700K run for 4-6 hours running an h.265 UHD encode, but power is cheap here and I rarely need to watch a rip the moment the disc tray pops out, so I'll deal with it until AV1-capable client devices are available... but at that time, I want to be ready to switch.

Everyone says it's not a gaming GPU, but I play all my steam games on it everyday. Just because you can't run your game at 8k max settings doesn't mean it can't play any games. It's not going to play any of the unoptimized console games well but games made for the PC directly works great! If you play online shooter and you need to count your frames in the 200 plus I say stay away. If you play single player and you don't mind playing 60 fps this is the card.

My games run 55 to 75 fps with v-sync on.
