Thank you for sharing. I have always wanted to play this one and Eldritch Horror. Does anyone have an opinion on which game is a better buy for someone who will only buy the base game and none of the expansions?

I have both, arkham horror is a deck building game and eldritch horror is similar but more of a traditional board game set up. Arkham horror is one of my favorite board/card games of all time because of the unique replay ability and story telling mechanics. The arkham horror board game comes with 3 scenarios in the base game and eldritch horror has 4 ancient ones or bosses in the base game to fight. Arkham is set up as a goosebumps choose your own adventure type game with multiple outcomes per scenario and overall campaign whereas iirc the ancient ones in eldritch as more just win/lose. My recommendation would be arkham if you want to try something unique, or eldritch if you want a traditional board game with more traditional gameplay

The unique aspect sounds more interesting to me. I have other traditional boardgames so AH sound more fun from your description. Thank you for your help. 👍

This is $64 on target. So a bit exaggerated on the list price.

I bought this for $32 in Feb 2020. It's a decent game but it really surprises me how much this has gone up in price considering it's still an in print game. Check out elder sign if you want some cheaper in the same universe.

I just received my copy last week that I got for $30 (plus $6 shipping). It's been $30-40 a few times in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if it dropped again. This is a pretty good site to have an idea on price history if anyone wants to use that as gauge for their purchase.

Are you thinking of Arkham Horror the card game? There's no deckbuilding in this. It is a lot more similar to Eldritch Horror. Even the card game isn't technically a deck builder. It's more like Magic where you make a deck to play with.

Oops you are correct! I glossed over the packaging because im so used to only seeing/hearing arkham horror LCG material and less of the standard arkham horror standalone game. In that case i recommend the lcg over this version after playing all three Smilie

I'd say EH is the better game. There's more to do and it feels more epic.

I'd also check out Mansions of Madness, I prefer MoM over the other two. And if you don't want to buy big expansions, they have a few extra stories you can buy in the app for a few bucks. It does require the app though to play.

The AH card game is amazing, but it basically needs expansions and gets quite expensive.

Unless you get the first edition MoM which requires someone to run the game.
