Heads up: I did a deal like this before and the free case was in the form of an online code printed on a physical card. That code was expired. Neither QVC nor the company that was doing the cases would provide a valid code.

Read your link again. This is literally the latest generation Fire HD 10, which is indeed the 2021 model. There should have been a newer one this year, but they seemingly released the Fire Max 11 instead.

This device is hard to recommend because the limitations of FireOS, even with Google Playstore installed, will annoy everyone to a different degree. FireToolBox is great, but it's usefullness changes between device, FireOS, and FireToolBox versions. If you're JUST using this for streaming video services, the device performs just fine.

The issues that annoyed me were the lack of notifications for Google Playstore apps, issues with button mapping for gaming controllers, memory leaks from the official YouTube App, and muddy speakers.

90% of what I do is stream content. It is sturdy and cheap enough that my heart doesn't skip the numerous times I've dropped it.

If it makes you feel better. I got the 8" fire tablet from a similar sale previously. Got a valid code, signed up for the free case and they never sent the free case.

How does this compare to the samsung galaxy a7/a8? I'm always wary about these android tablets because i've not found one around this price range that has enough speed to be functional for me. The used ipad minis from 5 years ago seem to run better than a lot of this new android stuff around the same price range.

I received mine today and it's on version 7.3.2.1. which is fully customizable with firetoolbox.
** DONT TURN IT ON OR CONNECT TO THE INTERNET
READ WHAT TO DO ON FIRETOOLBOX.

I use mine as a paperweight it really is a terrible tablet for anything other than children use or a travel (I don't care if it's stolen or lost in transit) device.

I've had all sorts of Fire Tablets over the years. They're cheap and slow. I'd never use one as my daily tablet, but I do use them as screens on my desk to monitor my cameras, or to control my SONOS system in the house.

They are on 24/7 as screens to look at my Eufy cameras and they work well for that.
