The build and the promotional pictures on this product seem specifically directed towards theft. Showing them in a dirty bag on the ground. Showing a guy in a silhouette cutting some chain. This looks like project mayhem promotional swag! Don't get me wrong, bolt cutters have their place, but sheesh, this seems built for steelin!

I want to ask what size of rebar but that might be irrelevant because these are only 14" long. You're going to have to apply a tremendous amount of force on these in order to cut any size of rebar. Sure rebar is soft mild steel but...it's still quite a bit of metal that you are displacing. It probably would cut one piece of it with enough force...but unless you have a lot of upper body strength/weight and only have a couple cuts I wouldn't even consider these particular ones for it. Get a cut-off wheel for a grinder or use a hacksaw OR buy a bigger/longer pair. The Amazon reviews are not the best for this either...it might be good for cutting chain link fence or wire but you'll never regret getting a bigger pair, unless physically carrying it is a concern.

I found this segment from an article online:

"If you'll be using it frequently or for long periods of time, look for one with cushioned handles and/or an ergonomic design. With these factors in mind, here are some suggested sizes: For light duty Cutting occasional small pieces of up to 3/8″ diameter rebar: 14″ cutters will do the job nicely.

For medium duty Cutting thicker pieces of up to 1/2″ diameter rebar: 18″ cutters will give you more power and durability. For heavy-duty Cutting thick pieces of up to 5/8″ diameter rebar: 24″ cutters are your best bet for tackling big jobs."

That folding joint looks like a weak spot. When you're leaning on the bolt cutters with all your strength it looks like it'll just flex. Or snap in half.

As someone who actually has to cut locks for work occasionally (not to steal things but to access areas I need to work), I highly recommend a cut off wheel on a grinder over bolt cutters. Much more versatile, easier to use. These have their place but I can't remember the last time I used our bolt cutters over the grinder.

Right, but the cut off wheel gets HOT, the Grinder is LOUD, Burning SMELL lingers for hours, and hot dangerous SPARKS fly everywhere.

So, there is something to be said about a cold, quiet, non-smelly, safe pair of bolt cutters.

I have these in the larger size, and they are great, built like a tank, no way the handle is going to break at the joint, and fit in a toolbox. Can cut bolts, nails, chain, and small locks like butter. But forget about cutting large locks or rebar, you could do it, but it would be a struggle.

All of your points are valid. My use case is the middle of the woods for no one to be bothered and I wear ear & eye protection. If stealth at night is desired, bolt cutters are the better option. Most of the locks I need to cut are pro grade heavy duty anyway. The grinder makes it happen in under a minute with HF cutoff wheels.
