here's a map of the maui and you'll see there's much more to maui than lahaina.
40% of Maui's GDP is associated with tourism. [wsj.com] If we want locals to lose their homes, livelihoods, and jobs by withholding money so corporations can then buy them out for cheap, then don't visit.
Otherwise, support small businesses in East and South Maui, and be compassionate.
There are always locals who hate mainland visitors. They're just like the NIMBY people you find anywhere else in America who don't want new housing, social services, or development.

Hotel rooms are going begging right now in Kihei and the east side of the island.
More so in Kaanapali as it's now a long drive to get the from the west.
Please do not f*cking spend money on a flight, donate it to these beautiful people. We are talking about parents that had to watch the daycare that their own children where in from dropping them off in the morning due to school closures - burn. Parents that had to leave their kids at home due to school closures that morning - that were held back from trying to save their child from their burning home. The hundreds of dead bodies that are estimated to be recovered that sought refuge in the ocean....
