I have used the 1TB of OneDrive storage that comes with an Office 365 Personal (now called Microsoft 365 Personal) for about 5 years now, as that is the cheapest online storage I'm aware of, and whenever I see a deal at or below $30 on here or eBay I usually grab one, to push my expiration date out another year.
I'll probably never use Nord, but will give it away to one of my friends.
I bought 1 yesterday afternoon on Antonline, and even though it is marked as a physical item (mentions Free Ground Shipping and asks for shipping address at checkout), the keys arrived via E-mail - Nord arrived first about 2 hours after I ordered, and then Microsoft 365 arrived maybe 20 mins after that.
Before applying my new key, I looked at my current expiration date for my Microsoft 365 Personal subscription by visiting https://account.microso
Then I browsed to https://office.com/setup to get to the screen where I apply the product key I just received.
After it accepted my key, it wanted me to confirm my credit card for auto-renew, which I did as there's no option not to (but I'll describe disabling it later), and then it had me agree to the Microsoft Services Agreement again.
Then it displayed "Success! You've just renewed Micorsoft 365", and so I went back to https://account.microso
I don't want auto-renew though (I would NEVER pay full price), so I clicked on Manage Subscription, and then "Turn off auto-renew."
This part is scummy on Microsoft's part - on the screen it says in front of a yellow warning-like background "Please review: You may lose edit access to your files and more", which is only true after my subscription expires, and only if I don't add another code by then, which I will.
REALLY scummy of Microsoft is that they labeled the button to turn off auto-renew with "I don't want my subscription", and on the page it does not clarify that your account will still work until the expiration date (you'll still get what you paid for) when you click it.
Since I knew I would still get to use it through my expiration date, I went ahead and clicked on the "I don't want my subscription" button, and then it displayed a confirmation message of "You turned off auto-renew for your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription" and then goes on to say "Your subscription will end on (my end date, a long time from now) but you can subscribe again any time..."
Thanks again Red_Liz for posting this.
I added the M365 code to my existing M365 subscription and then turned off auto-renew. No issues.

The Microsoft Cloud "onedrive" = someone else's computer. Get a NAS or even an external drive and keep your files in your home. Some of you are busting your humps trying to figure out how to extend your subscription or turn off autopay. I would think you could put in the effort and plug in a external drive and just do a copy and paste. If you don't want a NAS that can be configured for redundancy, get two external drives and paste twice.
Regarding not trusting Microsoft, I'm with you there. I counteract it though, by storing almost everything encrypted in 7-Zip archives or PDF files before uploading them to OneDrive - so all Microsoft can see are the names of my files, but NOT the contents. I have Keka on my iPhone to handle the 7-Zip archives when I'm away from home, and the iPhone can encrypt and decrypt PDF files natively. Also, I don't have my camera roll automatically uploaded to OneDrive, for the same reason (privacy) - instead, every so often I encrypt any pics I care about into a 7-Zip archive first, and then upload into OneDrive.
So that's what works for me, with an acceptable balance of convenience and privacy. Just some contrasting perspective for you, not trying to convince you of anything. ✌️
I think before I read that you could extend family with personal codes but only 9 months worth or something odd like that.
I currently pay for Torguard but also could be open to using a combo here to combine 365/nord all in one to save money since I'm not in love w/ torguard.
Ideally i'd get a family 365 plan so I can share with my siblings, but open to good deals on individual plans as well.

For upgrading Personal to Family although Microsoft seems to indicate you'd get 85%:

I haven't seen specific data points for this. Long ago I heard you could add on a month of Family to an existing Personal plan and the whole time would be retained and immediately switch to Family. Based on the 85% it's not clear if 12 month Personal + 1 month Family would yield 0.85(12) + 1 or ideally 12 + 1? Likewise would 48 month Personal + 12 month Family yield 0.85(48) + 12 = 52.8 or 48 + 12 = 60?
I will experiment if I can get another 365 code.
