I really like Anderson, but this one didn't do it for me. Really liked Asteroid City, so hopefully it was just an aberration for me.

I really enjoyed this film, as I generally do all of Anderson's films. It was a much lower stakes film than pretty much any other film he's made, but in reality it was just a means to sew a bunch of short films together. Basically without a film of this format, we likely never would have gotten any of the stories on screen.

Definely worth watching and, for me at least, worth owning as I will definitely rewatch it at some point.

For $4 it's a no-brainer to get.

I couldn't get into this movie either. I would rate this his worst movie to date. I haven't seen Asteroid City yet though.

Great price, thanks. I love this film. Yes, it may be his worst, actually his 2nd worst (darjeeling) but I still love it.

Ah, the first-world dilemma: do I stream it in UHD-4k/HDR online (included with my subscription) for an overall better picture quality, or lock this into my collection in HD?

Anderson is my favorite director and it started for me with Bottle Rocket. Still quite that and Rushmore to this day.

However, French Dispatch was easily his worst one.

If you're referring to Max, it's in HD. And the digital stores (iTunes, Vudu, etc.) have it in 4K without HDR.

The movie was just okay, but somehow that $4 price tag makes it very tempting, lol

Rushmore was a definite highlight. Since then precious cleverness seems to be forcing out charm little by little. The craft is great, but I just find it really hard to care about any the characters in many of his recent movies. The female characters in particular have become weirdly hollow compared to the ones in Rushmore or Tennenbaums.

But for $4 I'll be glad to see this one a time or two

I'd say the greats are Royal Tennenbaums and Grand Budapest.
But my person favorites are those + Rushmore (my absolute favorite) and Life Aquatic.

Then the rest are like... hmmm OK yep that's Wes Anderson alright.

But French Dispatch is the first one - including Fantastic Mr. Fox - where I was like... this is kinda... bad.

Bottle Rocket will always have a special place to me. Got me into Wes, got me into my favorite actor of all time, Owen Wilson, and amplified by the fact I'm from Dallas too.

"Don't pay attention to them. Did you see what they had on?"
"Yeah... was pretty cool."

Both for me. I bought the 4K digital version awhile ago but I'll happily add this to my collection since its the only physical version available.
