FYI: Student price is $1028.29. Now, that is a FANTASTIC deal.
Also note that there is a mark II version of this camera that adds phase-detect autofocus (PDAF). I'm not enough of a connoisseur to know if that's important, and you may want to do your own research before purchasing.

The new AF on the MKII is substantially better, and some say it's now top-of-the-line for this price bracket; I actually use AF for video now.
The S5 is an amazing camera and this is a good deal, especially with a lens. I will say that I would only use manual focus for video on the S5.
Nice. Hopped on this when I saw it on Amazon a few days ago. But that kit lens & 50mm with student discount would have been slicker. I offered to pay half since this was gifted to me though. Looking forward to use it, I'm coming from FZ1000. Way overdue for an upgrade! Anyone got links for Amazon or so for that SmallRig type cage with handle?
This is a good deal if you don't shoot videos. I would definitely go to S5M2 though if you are a student and have the presential possibility of handling photo and video at the same time. It's only $600 more and you will have a much better experience with auto focus and heat ventilation. This would save you a lot of time and also give you more confidence on the clips you took. If you are a very experienced photographer, and can handle the manual focus, you probably would go higher a level camera, which would cost much more than this, right?
