Very good camera. I've been using it for video and photography for over a year now. There are also a lot of affordable high quality L-mount lenses that work with this from Sigma. The Lumix S f/1.8 primes are affordable too. The Lumix S f/2.8 zooms are rather pricey though. This price is going to make it difficult for me to sell my S5 to help pay for my upgrade to S5 IIx.

Any deals on glass to go with this? Hard to pass up a FF sensor at this price.

Is it better than canon R8? Thinking about upgrading from R to R8.

I used to have a Panasonic, albeit one of their little M4/3 models. Lumix has made a name for themselves in the video space in recent years, so if you do a lot of videos with your camera, Lumix is one of the best options.

However, the issue I had with mine, which still exists with some of their current models (including the S5) is that they don't use Phase Detect for their autofocus.

Nowadays I understand they've improved a lot in terms of accuracy, but speed is definitely still an issue in terms of locking onto the subject.

I would urge against Canon if you're looking to do hybrid video and photos. Instead, look towards Sony or Panasonic. The s5ii x was posted on slickdeals a few weeks ago for around $2k with kit lens

R8 Pros: Better autofocus, 4K/60 without crop
S5 Pros: Larger Battery, doesn't overheat, excellent image stabilization

I'm looking to perhaps jump right to the S5ii with it's much improved autofocus. Really depends on what deals crop up. If I could get the 20-60 lens included for this price it would be a no brainer. You can use EF glass with these using an adapter, though with the S5 the focus doesn't work too well with them.

I hoped to get a Sony A7iv or an FX30, but I'm very tempted to jump on this for the price. Would anyone happen to have any recommendations for lenses?

IDK, the lumix S primes are good, but the sigma contemporary 28-70 is a great lens... cost almost as much as the body at this price lol.

Thanks and repped!
Bought body + 50mm F1.8 + 24-105 F4.

Missed the Fuji X-T5 deal, but Panasonic appears to have a very decent L-mount selection -relatively inexpensive compared to brands like Sony/Canon.

This is the old model that's using the very old and unreliable focusing tech. It's not a huge deal for photos as long as you have good light. If you autofocus your videos it'll hunt for focus constantly.

For an amateur photographer, weekend warrior type, how would this full frame compare to the M4/3 frame G9 that is on sale at Amazon for $649 including 15-60mm lens? The S5 is quite a bit more expensive body alone plus the need to add lenses. I guess I am asking what are the additional features that are typically important for amateur photographers to justify the additional cost?

I plan to be doing mostly indoor portraits and outdoor portraits + sceneries, maybe some macros. The small size/weight of the M4/3 cameras are nice to have for traveling purposes. TIA
