Very good camera. I've been using it for video and photography for over a year now. There are also a lot of affordable high quality L-mount lenses that work with this from Sigma. The Lumix S f/1.8 primes are affordable too. The Lumix S f/2.8 zooms are rather pricey though. This price is going to make it difficult for me to sell my S5 to help pay for my upgrade to S5 IIx.
Is it better than canon R8? Thinking about upgrading from R to R8.
I used to have a Panasonic, albeit one of their little M4/3 models. Lumix has made a name for themselves in the video space in recent years, so if you do a lot of videos with your camera, Lumix is one of the best options.
However, the issue I had with mine, which still exists with some of their current models (including the S5) is that they don't use Phase Detect for their autofocus.
Nowadays I understand they've improved a lot in terms of accuracy, but speed is definitely still an issue in terms of locking onto the subject.

Thanks for the information.I guess I will stick to upgrading to R8 which comes with dual pixel pd af.

I would urge against Canon if you're looking to do hybrid video and photos. Instead, look towards Sony or Panasonic. The s5ii x was posted on slickdeals a few weeks ago for around $2k with kit lens
I'm looking to perhaps jump right to the S5ii with it's much improved autofocus. Really depends on what deals crop up. If I could get the 20-60 lens included for this price it would be a no brainer. You can use EF glass with these using an adapter, though with the S5 the focus doesn't work too well with them.
This is the old model that's using the very old and unreliable focusing tech. It's not a huge deal for photos as long as you have good light. If you autofocus your videos it'll hunt for focus constantly.

S5 Pros: Larger Battery, doesn't overheat, excellent image stabilization

Bought body + 50mm F1.8 + 24-105 F4.
Missed the Fuji X-T5 deal, but Panasonic appears to have a very decent L-mount selection -relatively inexpensive compared to brands like Sony/Canon.
