Genuinely interested on how it will work. I imagine if it's reported to the IRS and you don't qualify, will they just charge you the $7500 discount on your taxes?

Towards end of year few will wait to get tax credit on jan 1st assuming it will be instant - not sure on this
But I agree it does seem weird. Someone might buy not expecting to exceed the cap, but than end up putting in more OT or extra income in December by $1k pushing them over $300k and losing $8k.
For those interested, Lyft driver gave conflicting information - love the car, had to replace the battery, and had to get various repairs on his car 'many' times (his word). Which it contradicts his comment of minimal issues from an earlier point in our chitchat.
