It looks like they cut prices on the Model X and Model X Plaid. The base Model X now sells for $79,990 while the Plaid now sells for $89,990. All color options are included too. It also seems as if it might now qualify for a tax credit.

Edit: Model S prices were slashed too.

I recently saw an MKBHD video for the NEW fastest car ever made - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF9xYtouZjY
That's a 2 million dollar car not sure it's mass production…

Glad I got my Plaid on release. $18k price drop in a day?! That's not their typical grand or two drop that stings but is easy to get over. I don't know how I'd handle this if I'd have picked one up recently
You DID KNOW that the lithium battery part was going to get orders of magnitude cheaper as time went on, right? 🤣

I thought the income caps will always apply even in 2024? I know they are planning to apply the discount at purchase, but I imagine it will be reported to the IRS?

Genuinely interested on how it will work. I imagine if it's reported to the IRS and you don't qualify, will they just charge you the $7500 discount on your taxes?
I thought since the credit can be transferred to the dealer we don't need to qualify at tax time, but maybe not?

you will have the option, beginning in 2024, to take the EV tax credit as a discount when you purchase the vehicle. Essentially, you would be transferring the credit to the dealer, who could lower the vehicle price by the amount of the credit. This means you won't have to wait until it's time to file your tax return to benefit from the electric vehicle tax credit.
But I agree it does seem weird. Someone might buy not expecting to exceed the cap, but than end up putting in more OT or extra income in December by $1k pushing them over $300k and losing $8k.

The income cap does exist in 2024 too btw. It's just that you get the credit upfront
I'm not sure, I might have to do the lease loophole than in 2024.

Also with M3 new models there will be discounts on existing inventory
Expect more discounts/deals in this month end which is Q3 and also year end sales.
Towards end of year few will wait to get tax credit on jan 1st assuming it will be instant - not sure on this

Anyone buying a new car looses their a$$ in depreciation. FACT.
Not necessarily. If your purchase price is good, it is possible to break even or make profit. I did profit on two new cars because I purchased with great incentives and sold a year later.

Hopefully the new generation of Tesla got better quality control. My neighbor's Tesla's bumper fell off on the highway. Looks like a good deal though.

We bought a used 2018 75D X early last year for the same price as a new one now. I sorta feel like as if I invested in bitcoin. Resale value just tanked for sure.
That sucks, but I'm sure a lot of people had similar experiences regardless of vehicle type. My car was totalled last year and was valued the same as it was in 2017.

Yeah lease is probably the only way. The government website mentions the discount at dealership but also mentions the income tax caps.

Good idea but keep in mind that Tesla doesn't usually allow for lease buyouts. Other manufactures likely still will though.

Curious if any recent new Tesla model owners have information on quality control. With all the past reports of quality issues that are misrepresented, and my own person experiencing riding in a newer model 3 for lyft and asking the driver on quality, wonder if anything changed?

For those interested, Lyft driver gave conflicting information - love the car, had to replace the battery, and had to get various repairs on his car 'many' times (his word). Which it contradicts his comment of minimal issues from an earlier point in our chitchat.

I edited/updated the post to reflect the price cuts for the Model S as well. These are huge price cuts and feel sorry for those that took delivery before today.... If you ordered recently, you can still cancel the order but you will lose the $250 deposit. But that's chump change when you can save close to $20K.
even if you've ordered and not taken the delivery, they adjust with the lower priced. Same thing happend to us with Model Y earlier this year. no need to cancel the order.
