I bought this speaker pair 9 years ago and it's still going strong. It sound great for patio background music. I listened to it yesterday. Only negative is that it's yellowing in the direct sun exposure it gets.

Given that Yamaha doesn't specify a F3 value and only the response of the speaker as 55-20khz, not very low. This size bookshelf (5in woofer in small sealed cabinet) realistically will fall off around 80-100hz. That said, it's still a fine speaker for outdoor patio listening. If you really need to fill in the low end, then something like the PE sub below is a great addition. But, adding a 200 dollar sub to a 50 dollar pair of speakers doesn't make sense.

At this price it's kinda a no-brainer. Yamaha makes good stuff in this range. I've been building speakers and installing audio systems for 10+ years, and I'd give it a strong buy at this price. There's better out there yes, but not at 50 bucks. If you need bass and don't want a sub, look at larger 6.5 inch woofer outdoor speakers. They should get 20 or 30 hz lower depending on the design.
