its still expensive to be locked into their ecosystem. it will become useless when they discontinue the product or service. they could also start putting features behind a paywall again like they used to.

Yes (obviously check with your insurance company about the requirements) but for mine, it's 7% off the premium. Makes it a very quick payback period

You could just unplug it and turn it on manually.

They probably will go to a subscription service in a few years, easy to capture revenue to pay for ongoing changes to the software and features. As it costs money to keep the lights on for the software team and will pay for new research's and development.

Most things will be subscription based in the future.
They used to have a paywall back in the day but it was only for water usage analytical and not the leak detection. They gave up on that and sell extended warranty subscriptions instead.

And how does that solve the problem of detecting leaks?

Everyone already should have 1 or 2 shut off valves....this product isn't meant to replace those.

It's an easy job, I used sharkbite fittings so didn't even have to glue (although the glue is dummy proof too).
I installed mine with two 3/4" threaded male adapters ("cts cpvc 2109" ~$2 each) and CPVC glue.
Used some left over Teflon tape (not included)

Missed out on this deal but ordered for $50 more from a 3rd-party seller on Amazon. Now I'm questioning if I should return this if I happen to have any issues.

Except when you use a bidet while pooping at night and it assumes there's a leak. Don't ask me how I know?
Right. I wasnt being absolute. You set the time.

Question to those of you who have this installed.

Where should this be installed? Outside where the main water supply line is at? Or inside your garage where the water supply line into the water heater, for example? It seems there are different opinions out there and any guidance would be appreciated.

No, it is not a pressure regulator. In fact if I am not mistaken, to properly function it does require consistent pressure so it is usually recommended to put these after the pressure regulator valve.

I have Phyn and its plumbing checks rely on pressure readings so if you don't have a regulator and pressure changes due to supply line changes, the nightly checks may return false results.
Then what if the regulator leaks?

You can also have a leak between main and your house shutoff valve. Hopefully those are short runs and regulator, shutoff valve is in a place not likely to cause a lot of damage so you can detect and repair quickly.
