I got this on Walmart deal for $98. Just got my refund. These slowed down my internet and was only getting 1/3rd speed. The signal wasn't even great. I'd totally avoid.

Well if you are connecting all the routers by Ethernet cable than dual is okay but if you are planning to do a wireless setup than tri-band is essential.

Would this be an upgrade to ASUS 3 x RT-AC68U routers ? Mine are finally starting to give up and need to reboot them periodically now.

Edit: Found a review here https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/mot...i-6-system

Edit2: Researched some more. This is not for advanced users. It is a cloud connected router (much like those Google wifi devices but potentially even less flexible). No web ui. Configuration of the router only through their app. And one review on bestbuy mentions the hoops the person had to go through to get the default subnet changed from 10.10.1.x to 192.168.1.x. He apparently had to call their tech support and escalate to higher levels in tech support to get them to change it in their cloud database. Ouch!

$149 now.
Yep, appears to be dead for now. The price in cart is $149 now even though the 3 pack graphic on the page still shows the 49.99 deal...

It didn't say anywhere in the product description or post so a lot of people who are not in the know would buy this thinking it's a smoking deal. It isn't.

I got my TP-Link Deco AXE5300 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System Router refurb for $90. TRI-BAND.
Is $90 equal to $50 in your mind?

Also, it's TP-Link, which is usually on the low end of the spectrum in terms of cost.

I wouldn't expect to pay under $180 for a tri-band router without mesh, as I would expect anyone who actually needs tri-band to also need decent firmware and 2.5Gb Ethernet.

This was a good deal at $50, which is what we were debating when you posted.

Now that it's $150, not so much.

I doubt this was a price mistake. Quick google search shows Walmart also cleared these out at the same price of $50 in the past.

Are you running the factory ASUS firmware? You can consider trying Merlin's ASUS firmware and see if it runs more stable.

I have two T-mobile routers converted to RT-AC68U's running Merlin's firmware for the last few years and they've been stable. One of the two I use is from 2016, so definitely has some age on it.

I believe the TM-1900 is on the list for routers that had that gaping hole of an exploit with the stock Asus firmware, so I'd imagine the AC68 is affected as well.

I would install Merlin just for that reason alone.

Look for a router that can run openvpn client: Synology (for example RT2600ac), gl.inet, any router that can run DD-WRT, Tomato, or Openwrt.
I'm not familiar with those terms{DD-WRT, Tomato, etc}.
Isn't there a router that has a built in VPN where it will allow me to access the router settings and give me to option to just choose different VPN server locations in the U.S.A/World and set it as my router's default location?
I am currently using a VPN app on my Mac, which is fine when I am using my Mac, but I am trying to take it a step further since my Playstation or xbox has no way to install any VPN app on them, so that is really my main priority.
Not trying to really mess with VPN softwares where I need to instal them first to my Mac and then custom install them to my current router, I would just prefer buying a router that has a VPN built in where it will allow me to easily choose different locations and set it as my router "actual" location in the router settings as I mentioned earlier.
