$74 is pretty cheap to begin with for a 70cfm, 2 Sones fan. This one has a humidity sensor so $58 is pretty slick, IMO.

Do you reply to all deals posted that aren't 50% off?

It doesn't really make sense to compare discounts equally across the board. A lot of products have fake MSRPs designed to discount, which is what it seems you are used to. A bathroom fan is typically sold at a pretty competitive price every day. This is the lowest it's been since July 2021, so it's definitely a slick deal.

Also, are you suggesting they should discount these deeply because it takes actual work to install? That's... not how things work.

If I'm already in the market for one, 20% off is way better than 0% off that nobody posts about. Thanks OP.

I want to replace mine so bad as they are loud but want a simple easy replacement for a much quiet unit. Wonder if these could snap into the Nutone housing for easy swap.
Sometimes you can replace a motor for less noise .. easier than the whole unit

Good thing I have a window in my bathroom so the fan is useless
In Chicago summer time opening window won't help as outside humidity is 80%... In winter time you create more steam by letting cold air hit shower steam.... But to each their own...

What kind of ducting do most people use for these? Mine has fully deteriorated in my house. I plan to duct it all the way up to the ridge vent.

I would not suggest that, it'll leak humidity into the attic. Put in a proper vent. Some people do a soffit vent because it prevents roof penetrations.

Personally, I'd pay more for a Panasonic Whisper. It's the best made and it is nearly silent.

This fan claims 2.0 sones. while the Panasonics get down to around 0.3 sones. This is one of those things that you only buy once every 30 years, and it cost way more to redo than just to do right the first time.

A sone is kind of a silly measurement system, but for reference a refrigerator hum is about 1 sone and a TV at normal volume is claimed to be about 4 sones.

I got the Panasonic Whisperquiet for my bathroom remodels to see what the fuss is all about. After using them.. I'm a big fan!

A reminder that if you have an old bathroom fan and plan to replace it with a newer one with more CFM's (80+), you'll most likely need a larger duct and roof vent. Most older, builder basic bathroom fans used tiny 3" ducting. The newer, more powerful fans require 4"+ (6" for 100+ cfm) or else you'll get less air flow due to the restriction.

There are some weaker fans that come with an reducer from 4" to 3", but you won't be able to do that with a nicer unit.

It's typically a 4" flex duct made of wire covered in what looks like mylar plastic. If you have the ability, it's better to run a fan and duct at 6" and use as little bends as possible.

Sometime, you want more noise from the fan, just saying.

If you want everyone to know you are pooping, you could just yell it throughout the house.

Seriously though, just throw a smart speaker in the bathroom. You can play some music or news if you want to cover up your loud shits.

Can you link to the Whisper model?

It would totally depend on your needs. Retrofit vs new construction. Fan versus fan/light. Do you need heat? Do you want auto sensors? How big is the room? How many CFM will it take to clear that room quickly? Most people don't consider this stuff, but that's why you can go into a $500K house and find garbage $50 exhaust fans. People often really skimp on the utilities.

Type in Panasonic Whisper into Google and look through the options at the Panasonic website.

Here is a basic one as an example. It flows nearly twice as much air (110CFM)at less than half of the volume. At 80 CFM, it's more than 6 times quieter (0.3 sone).

How difficult is it to replace an exhaust fans like this for someone who has limited experience working around the house?
If it's the same size housing, it's very easy. Hardest part is keeping your arms up to make the change. There are tons of YouTube videos that will walk you thought. Id budget 30 mins for your first time.
