25ft 14awg should not overheat with 10 amps. Are you sure you weren't pulling more? Either that or it's not a high quality extension cord.

NOTE; the manual covers both 40amp and 50amp models. Be careful using the charts because the 40amp model can not be maxed out. Our electrician maxed it out wiring it as if 50amp model using manual specs. Same manual for both models so be careful with charts and specs in manual.

Personally I think they should have separate manuals for 40amp modle vs 50amp model.

Just be very careful.

DIY is EXACTLY about saving money. You are using your own time instead of the manufacturers time/money to build the item you purchased. In no reality should DIY be more expensive than a complete product in your hands. A DIY "cable" should not be more expensive than the product with the cable all installed for you (using your example), requiring you to scavenge it to save money.

My suspicion is they can not provide a competitive price because they have low volume, which is a direct result of them out-pricing the DIYer.

I can say that Emporia is one of the most recommended EVSEs on reddit and that mine has been amazing. I love the app and the data that I can get from it is exactly what I was looking for.

Yeah same here had one with a clear plug end that ended up frying. But I cut the end off and replaced it with a different female end and so far my 25ft 12AWG with a new end hasn't had any problems even in 100⁰ heat but my charger only runs 10A. I also bought a 3 ft 10AWG cable that I plan to use instead of my 25ft as a short extension cord for travel. I just haven't built it. Hard time finding a 120v plug ends that fit on a thick 10AWG cord.

Most reliable is Clipper Creek, they make components for OEM. Not sure now that they are part of enphase. I have installed 7 different chargers. This Autel is not bad, I have the model with holster in the unit. The app is not the best and there is a lot of complaints about the interface. The developers are responding but it could be a while for the changes to be implemented. I doubt this will be as reliable as clipper but it also provides options which clipper doesn't like changing settings in the app. You give up reliability for flexibility. This is made overseas. Customer support is hit or miss. Having installed so many of these from Tesla wall connector to clipper a few others and now this is is no more difficult than any other charger. App setup isn't too bad. Some issues initially during FW upgrade and some BT issues but I use WiFi so don't care about BT. Has rear entry like Tesla so that is a nice option although it is not center that could be an issue for some. If you want an adjustable charger with somewhat cluggy app this is it. Don't expect clipper warranty or reliability.

I think it's the plug end. I realized it as someone else posted their clear plug end melted as well. It's one of those clear light up female end and I noticed the internal brackets are thin. Once I switched out the plug end to a different solid plastic non illuminated end I haven't had any issues. It has thicker metal brackets to help transfer the current. I recently changed it a couple weeks ago and it's been working fine even in 100⁰ heat. I do cover it with a shade so the sun isn't beating directly onto it. It helps to keep the car charging at the chargers 10A capacity. I tested it with a kill a watt tester and it's just around 10A I forget what amperage exactly but it was within the correct range. So it's not pulling extra Amps. it's a ACE hardware 14/3 25ft extension cord.

32A vs. 40A: many cars (including mine) limit power to 6kW or 6.6kW so 32A can be enough.
