The only thing this unit is missing is it appears not to be supported by municipalities that offer a low night time charging rate that is billed by the charger. WIFI connection directly from the charger to the utility servers to monitor usage.

Our municipality is using chargepoint and Juicebox. These two are fully UL Listed and I think that's the reason. Autel is UL Rated, but rated is not the same as UL listed.

Cable really stiff in <20F temps, but no overheats with garage temperatures over 110F easily this summer.

It's a heavy duty unit. Wifi and bluetooth work well, and you can actually hardwire ethernet on this one I believe if you don't have Wifi.

I don't have two units to test this, but I have researched this model more than many youtubers out there that do charging reviews. Yes it appears that two chargers can share one circuit based on load balancing. This load balancing is based on internet control to the two units, not control wiring between the two units. It's app driven through Wifi.

With data driven features and a dedicated app this is more powerful than the current Wall Connector in my opinion.

Maybe not as inexpensive, but you can piece together your own EVSE (colloquially called "EV Charger") using an open platform, which I find pretty slick!

Hmmm -15, I doubted I would be in the garage or anywhere else at that temp.

I own this model, and this is one heck of a deal for that price. Does anyone know if there's a website like brickseek for inventory tracking for Costco?

This appears to be YMMV and instore only.
Call the store. It takes 2 min

Tesla's do not come with a mobile connector any more so you will need to purchase a "EVSE" if you want to charge at home. The features on this EVSE are substantial for $300, and it works for a Tesla as well as other EVs.
So this does NOT have the male charger for Tesla? I need to use the adapter to charge Tesla? Thanks

Wow you run a 100ft 10awg extension cord without issues? I've ran a 25ft 14awg for 10A and it's over heated my plug on the extension end before. I've never gone past 50ft on a 12awg. What's the voltage drop on that 100ft? I'm assuming no issues charging your vehicle?
25ft 14awg should not overheat with 10 amps. Are you sure you weren't pulling more? Either that or it's not a high quality extension cord.

NOTE; the manual covers both 40amp and 50amp models. Be careful using the charts because the 40amp model can not be maxed out. Our electrician maxed it out wiring it as if 50amp model using manual specs. Same manual for both models so be careful with charts and specs in manual.

Personally I think they should have separate manuals for 40amp modle vs 50amp model.

Just be very careful.

The cables are quite expensive but this DIY solution allows you to salvage an old cable from another system, which is where the savings kick in. Besides that, you are free to shop around. DIY is never really about "saving money" but having better understanding and control over what goes into your system.
DIY is EXACTLY about saving money. You are using your own time instead of the manufacturers time/money to build the item you purchased. In no reality should DIY be more expensive than a complete product in your hands. A DIY "cable" should not be more expensive than the product with the cable all installed for you (using your example), requiring you to scavenge it to save money.

My suspicion is they can not provide a competitive price because they have low volume, which is a direct result of them out-pricing the DIYer.

Can anyone post the item number for Costco? Easiest way to call a warehouse and inquire about availability.

Anyone know how this compares to an Emporia?

EDIT - sorry I see its in the pic. 1692706.
I can say that Emporia is one of the most recommended EVSEs on reddit and that mine has been amazing. I love the app and the data that I can get from it is exactly what I was looking for.

My Tesla was actually the same price to insure as my old Nissan Altima. Same coverage. 100/1000 deductible. Rental coverage. Etc. Ends up $750/yr with policy discounts. Insurance was a non-factor other than making sure you price around as some companies view it more as a sports car and price it high. Others recognize all the safety feature and discount it. I'm with Progressive
Interesting, I know every electric car we got has always been higher than our gas cars. But I've also noticed that's with any car that has some electric components like even basic hybrids.

Yeah, that sounds like a fire waiting to happen. I run a 25ft 12/3 extension cord hooked up to a standard outlet and things get hot! The plug is clear and the insides look kind of fried. So yeah, I'm looking to upgrade to a 240v.
Yeah same here had one with a clear plug end that ended up frying. But I cut the end off and replaced it with a different female end and so far my 25ft 12AWG with a new end hasn't had any problems even in 100⁰ heat but my charger only runs 10A. I also bought a 3 ft 10AWG cable that I plan to use instead of my 25ft as a short extension cord for travel. I just haven't built it. Hard time finding a 120v plug ends that fit on a thick 10AWG cord.

Most reliable is Clipper Creek, they make components for OEM. Not sure now that they are part of enphase. I have installed 7 different chargers. This Autel is not bad, I have the model with holster in the unit. The app is not the best and there is a lot of complaints about the interface. The developers are responding but it could be a while for the changes to be implemented. I doubt this will be as reliable as clipper but it also provides options which clipper doesn't like changing settings in the app. You give up reliability for flexibility. This is made overseas. Customer support is hit or miss. Having installed so many of these from Tesla wall connector to clipper a few others and now this is is no more difficult than any other charger. App setup isn't too bad. Some issues initially during FW upgrade and some BT issues but I use WiFi so don't care about BT. Has rear entry like Tesla so that is a nice option although it is not center that could be an issue for some. If you want an adjustable charger with somewhat cluggy app this is it. Don't expect clipper warranty or reliability.

Cheers

I think it's the plug end. I realized it as someone else posted their clear plug end melted as well. It's one of those clear light up female end and I noticed the internal brackets are thin. Once I switched out the plug end to a different solid plastic non illuminated end I haven't had any issues. It has thicker metal brackets to help transfer the current. I recently changed it a couple weeks ago and it's been working fine even in 100⁰ heat. I do cover it with a shade so the sun isn't beating directly onto it. It helps to keep the car charging at the chargers 10A capacity. I tested it with a kill a watt tester and it's just around 10A I forget what amperage exactly but it was within the correct range. So it's not pulling extra Amps. it's a ACE hardware 14/3 25ft extension cord.

It's much better to go with a hardwired option so you can avoid the need for an expensive GFCI that could be prone to nuisance tripping. It's often $200 cheaper to hardwire and a safer solution.
It can be more than a nuisance. My chargepoint would always trip the GFCI breaker. Hardwired now

Link not avail for costco

If you're looking for a cheaper but simpler alternative, I bought this 7.6kW/32A one for $170:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C9ZMV...tails&th=1

It's been working well for the last 2 months.
32A vs. 40A: many cars (including mine) limit power to 6kW or 6.6kW so 32A can be enough.
