Anyone else not excited about a garage door company managing security for 'smart' devices and live video? If they stop upgrading firmware or EOL the product? Im definitely leaning towards dumb garage door opener and add smarts or video in the garage with separate replaceable devices.

You do not have to sign up for a storage plan to stream live video. However, a subscription is required to automatically record and save video. A subscription is also required for our premium features such as People Detection and Facial Recognition.
Agreed. Considering that Chamberlain keeps flip-flopping on Alexa/Google integration: "Yes, it's free." Then, "We disabled it because it's a security risk." And then they brought it back, but as a paid subscription. And I believe Siri integration was limited to "Close door" and "check status", but no opening at the time. I don't even know (or care) about it at this point.

I've been much happier since I took out my Chamberlain and put in a comparable Genie instead.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm always willing to help close friends and family but installing a new garage door opener, esp if one isn't already there and you have to run an electrical outlet, can be a fairly time consuming job.

$180 is a fair price for a professional install.
What kind of family charges another family member when they ask for help installing something simple like a garage door opener. I installed our new Genie 1.25HP opener with battery backup myself in a few hours. It's not that difficult at all.

That $180 for professional installation doesn't cover if you need electrical outlet.

Good product - but in case you are wondering - the camera does not swivel Well, not unless you are willing to remove the screws and make some irreversible changes to the housing - which is not to hard to do, but, well, irreversible. (It's not advertised as rotating but there are some reviews that falsely state that it does)!
Also, not found in the advertisement - but this unit IS home-link compatible! - So it works with cars that have home-link enabled garage door buttons.
I did not find out about this until I noticed the homelink symbol on the packaging

I got this last year from a previous Costco deal but got around to installing it (getting installed rather) last month. The door opener stopped working after a couple weeks (error code 1-5). Turns out the travel module/chip failed and it's a fairly common problem. Since it had been a year I couldn't return it to Costco, but Chamberlain support was good and they sent me a replacement module. I did have to ask someone to replace it. Wanted to share my experience with this garage belt opener
Costco wouldn't let you return it? From what I remember, garage openers aren't under the 90 day policy, and should be able to be returned whenever?Did that change?

As it turns out, I'll now have to contact both Costco and Chamberlain tomorrow - as my unit conked out again 😭. I had assumed garage door openers fall into the 90 day return policy but I'll check and update here

Double check whether it actually works with your car. My Chamberlain from two years ago had a "newer" version of Homelink, that my 2020 Infiniti didn't support. I had to buy a separate Chamberlain transmitter, that takes up another outlet, to translate "old" Homelink signals to "new" Homelink - completely negating the added security of the newer version. I think Chamberlain is pushing v4.0 now, but a lot of cars still only have 3.0 or something like that.

Wish it was the 1/2 hp that was on sale. It tends to be like $100 cheaper. 3/4 hp is too much for a one garage door. I have a similar one to this one for my 2 car garage door and it works great. Only difference is the camera and light.
Not all garage doors are single width (mine is 16' wide), not all garage doors are built with the same materials, thicknesses, etc etc.

I got a 1.25hp version of the same [costco.com] from Costco for $130 just over a year ago,. Looks identical to this except mine are higher HP and have 2 lights not just 1.

So far they have been solid units. Motion sensing lights are nice,. The integrated cams are OK, a bit laggy vs. my Ring setup.

No issues with Homelink and our Hondas.

Yes, and "official" Apple Homekey support via a hub originally cost $99 extra and then a few years later they pulled support so the Homekit bridge is now a brick. For awhile you could make a Siri Shortcut via LiveKey to open and close -- all I want -- but that seems to be bricked now too.

Honestly, I wonder how much longer the app will be free rather than a subscription.

I don't think garage door openers should fall under the 90-day return policy. I get these things and don't even install them for 90 days sometimes.

Why does this exist then? Are we supposed to buy a splitter that will allow this to open 2 garage doors at the same time?

Maybe 3/4 hp is too much for **YOUR** garage door.

Well, not sure if you think I disagree with that. I would never charge a family member or friend, of course - never said I would. I'm just stating that it's a bigger ask to ask somebody to "just come over and install my garage door opener." It's more than just a Little Caesars pizza and some Miller Lite kinda job. Also, I'm aware and agree that "basic installation" will NOT include an outlet if one is needed... I was just stating that these jobs can get complicated, fast - esp if a new outlet is needed. So, $180 for basic installation isn't a bad deal. If you need an outlet, you're going to need one whether you install it yourself or you pay somebody else to do it - and yes, it's gonna be extra.

More like "what kind of family expects another family do to work for them without compensation". Even if you aren't handing over cash, taking them to a good meal, tickets to a game, buying lunch and dinner, etc, or a 12 pack.

Lots of super cheap people I guess.
