The negative reviews are pretty bad. If you do buy this I wouldn't expect any service or warranty. They probably went belly up and are liquidating inventory.
Cafe is GE fashion line that they position above GE Elite and Monogram... really doubt they are going under anytime soon.

As for this maker, decent for the price. I returned it and went for the Philips one instead... overall it was ok, I didn't have any issues that the review talked about (water leaks...) but I wanted something more capable

Discontinuing the product line basically is the same thing. The number of reviews claiming lack of service are concerning.

Any reason not to get this just because it's not shipped and sold by Amazon?

Never again will I buy an super automatic espresso machine. Too many things to break. I have had two different ones, Jura and Delonghi - and they required expensive repairs. Manual or semi-auto - I like Breville.

The internals of this machine are used by many brands. The ones I know of are GE Cafe, Tchibo and Smeg. They usually have the buttons on the top front, a square bean hopper/grinder in the front behind the buttons, and a water tank on the top back (somewhat inconvenient to remove when unit is kept under a cabinet). The brew unit is much more compact and easier to clean than the brew units in the Philips and Saeco's. I've owned both the Philips and the Tchibo. I did not have any issues with the Tchibo for the year or so that I used it, but others have.
As someone who had this, the ge profile, and the Tchibo I can confirm. Almost all internals as well as most accessories are interchangeable. As in the Tchibo water tanks fits (doesn't look good but works). Pump, brew unit, flow meter, etc. are identical.

Jeesh, then this positioning has nothing to do with quality but just branding. For example: both, the GE profile as well as this machine ditched metal hose clamps in favor of fabric rings. They will stretch and will cause leaks - the question is just when.

I got this a few years ago and use it multiple times a day. The coffee tastes very good for my taste. As far as I'm concerned it has more than paid for itself by not going to the coffee shop. Only complaint (not big enough that I wouldn't recommend)- the grinds can get moldy if I don't empty them within a few days.
Then never open your machine up. Looking at the brew unit door, you'll see the brew unit standing upright. It's installed on a lever that pivots 45 degrees towards the front of the machine. Hidden from plain view in the top right corner there's the piston/tamper.

Remove the brew unit and get in there with a microfiber cloth and clean the piston/tamper. It's just a round cylinder compressing the ground coffee and pushing the water through. There's a lot of mold buildup on and around.

Interesting. I had a Breville Oracle Touch, and to get up early and make coffee it was such a chore (we were coming from a Nespresso) that we ended up not using it. Got the Philips 3200 (regular frother) for $~400 on a lightning sale and it's been great. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to maintain. And the espresso shots are consistent and delicious, unlike when I had to tamp my own.

I would say this is a huge important part of a machine that will make espresso shots.

I'm not coffee snob but I do like my lattes. I bought an instant pot one and it froths the Trader Joe's brown sugar oat milk in 20 seconds! Makes my morning routine more pleasant Smilie
