As far as I know, the Asus AiMesh allows other Asus network devices to be added as nodes into the AiMesh network. I currently have a RT-AX3000 as my main node with 3 RT-AC68Us as mesh nodes. I'm going to try and swap out this setup with this 3-node ZenWifi and add the existing Asus devices as nodes. If that plan doesn't work, then I'll just return it.

Edit: I decided to pass on this coz it's only dual-band. The main reason that I wanted to replace my system is to remove the powerlines that I use for the Mesh setup. Powerlines limit the bandwidth significantly but still prefer it since the wired connection is stable. I will hold out for a Tri-Band setup instead.

Do all versions of asus mesh, well…. Work together?? Meaning if I have the high end asus ax6600, can I add these to give signal in other areas of house? Or they don't mesh together

This is what I absolutely love about eero system, just not sure if asus mesh software works the same, I assume it does

Also if you buy new devices to add to mesh is it flexible to swap out which one is the main unit? The unit connected to isp modem?

In general, if the routers support AiMesh, then they will be compatible. However, when mixing technologies, it is recommended to connect them with a wire for backhaul. You can learn more from dongknows.

If you have an ax6600 and need to use a wireless backhaul, you should just buy more of them to expand your network.

Thanks. I've been thinking about those but I still need to run the coax cable drops.

Be careful with the asus mesh setup then, bc even my triband 92U the routers default to using the third band as wifi 6 backhaul for mesh support, so unless you have a different backhaul or disable it you will lose wifi 6 access.

Oh that is unfortunate that you dont have coax already in the areas you need - if you need to run cabling then might as well just do ethernet then otherwise really see if you can reposition your equipment so that you can use the existing coax.

I've had this system for years now and it's been amazing, no issues with it and I never dreamed I could have such a good WiFi network. It covers inside my 5150 SF house perfectly, and even covers about 5 acres outside my house through dense woods.

One location does have the coax drop but the more important one has a coax drop in the attic that I would need to extend. It's still a bit hot in there so I'm waiting for weather to cool down before I try to tackle it.

Yeah I think my existing AiMesh nodes might not work as well as I envision since they're only dual-band anyway. Maybe MOCA might be a better option and just keep using the ethernet backhaul.

I don't have this setup but I do have an AiMesh setup using "seasoned" equipment and I agree that the Asus AiMesh is very reliable and stable. That's why I stick with Asus.

Orbi is tri band AC3000 (if u get rbr50 not rbk20 or rbr40) then it's better than this..

Throughput is higher on a tri band router system which uses a dedicated channel for router to router communications
