There was another post regarding iPhone SE's recently and to summarize it
The 3rd generation has:

- 5g and this doesn't
- a bit better battery life
- a better processor

False information.
I've unlocked several phones at 60 days - policy changed 11/2021 when Verizon bought all the Tracfone brands. Read official policy, it's posted on their website.

Yes, you can transfer the prepaid Tracfone service to this phone, without chatting or talking to TF agents. Do not swap SIM cards. DIY Guide [reddit.com].

Thanks for the tip on the 3rd gen iPhone SE at Target for $149. Found the same at Walmart and was able to pickup same day. Called TracPhone and rebranded to them, activated on their service with the included StraightTalk SIM on the $10 for first 2 months with autopay plan. After 60 days it'll be unlocked and I'll move it to our Tello plan which is only $7 a month. We just use it as a shared "emergency" phone for our kids, so looking for the cheapest option without messing with a complicated process.

Cool, glad it went smoothly. Also for others, note that the "rebranding" may not be needed at all. Some users have been able to successful activate the phone completely through the automated online process without a call. If that doesn't work (some aren't that lucky), a call is needed. But I'd probably avoid going through their human reps unless it's necessary (they can be very hit-or-miss and some can cause more headaches). Personally, I had one that required a call and one that activated smoothly online with no call needed.

Can you share more details on what number you called Tracfone and what exactly you asked them to do? And what plan did you sign up on? Did you need to request a new physical SIM?

I did not rebrand, got ST SE3 from WM & activated using my current TF number, phone unlocked at 60 days.
Always use included sim which is generic TF brand & linked to phone.
Activate on TF website (I have a Tracfone) & enter IMEI. Follow prompts. Buy whatever TF plan you want.
If it won't activate for some reason (it's usually because WM employee forgot to scan) then call TF support and verify the problem.

Thanks, I don't have a Tracfone number yet and only wanted to activate it so that it unlocks 60 days later. I presume I have to rebrand in this case?

No, just choose I want a new number when you activate, can all be done online at their website (can buy plan as well). It walks you through it.

So is this worth picking up? Do you think the updates for the phone will be at least 3 more years?

Going by how my 8+ is still updated, you get 6-7 years of OS updates from launch

Since Straight talk uses AT&T , if i insert a AT&T prepaid sim card into this phone will it work or does it need to be unlocked after 60 days even for AT&T prepaid sim to work?

It would need to be unlocked first.

Yes, it's way better. The size and look is practically the same, but the SE has a much faster processor and runs current iOS, while the 6 is pretty much obsolete at this point. The 6 runs a much older iOS version, so some apps may not even run on it these days. The SE 2020 is essentially a continuation of the 6 / 7 / 8 series, but newer than any of those. It could have easily been called the 9 in that respect, but I think they wanted to get away from comparisons to the completely different X / 11 / 12 line of phones. The following article is old, but still a good comparison of the two …
