we have this . it fits small women well (under 5'6) . even generous shoulder area. It's got additional baffles around the face & collarbone. Also extra insulation and room at the feet. It replaced an expensive North Face . This one is more durable with better protection against zipper jams. Oveall a better product. Warmer insulation at the same "rating"

Apologies for the slight derailment. I've never been camping before. I know I need a tent. Do I absolutely need sleeping bags like this or inflatable beds and some blankets and pillows are enough?is cold weather protection the main benefit of sleeping bags?

Convenient, but not at all necessary.

A down bag like this one is nice for size and weight relative to the warmth it provides, but if size and weight aren't a concern because you're pulling up to a campsite in your car (opposed to carrying over distance in a backpack), then just take enough of whatever you have to keep you warm.

I will add since you mentioned an inflatable bed, when camping in colder conditions, you need something below you that insulates you from the cold just as much as on top. A typical inflatable mattress is not insulated (unless specifically called out), so even if you have all the blankets in the world on top of you (or even an adequately warm down sleeping bag), you could be in for a very cold night without a "mattress" made to help keep you warm... (foam sleeping pads are a generally low cost way to get there)

The kindercone is synthetic insulation and doesn't stuff to nearly as small as the one in this deal. If you are car camping may not be a huge issue but it's worth noting, especially if you have multiple kids. We have 3 kindercones and the space they take up is significant compared to our down bags

The kindercone is made with synthetic insulation which is heavier and doesn't pack down as small. On the plus side, synthetic will insulate much better if it gets wet. All else being equal, they are rated for the same temperature and should be just as warm as one another under normal conditions.

Great sleeping bag, my gf has the women version and it's really warm for the price. Comfort rated to 22*f and packs down reasonably small. I would spend a little more and get the magma 15. The woman magma 30 is also good (comfort rated 28*f), I wouldn't get the men's magma 30 it's rated to 39*f which isn't warm enough for a lot of situations.

This is great, it's worth point out the kindercone is easier to store and clean.

Down bags pack smaller, but have to be stored uncompressed with nothing on top of them. Our kindercones are just stuffed in their brilliant stuff sack and thrown in the closet.

Down can be trickier to wash and dry, which matters with small children.

This is crazy cheap for down though.

Just bought this for $93 a few days ago. I'll ask for a price adjustment.

Packs down super well.

Perfect for Cub Scouts / Early Boy Scouts and cheap enough to use for a couple years without breaking the bank.

The bags most parents send their kids with don't keep them warm. The usual bags sent are either cheap junk, or oversized and don't trap the heat, in most cases both apply.

The kindercones might actually be better if they aren't hiking.

You seem like the best person here to ask. How do I really know if my down sleeping bag is no longer good (without actually sleeping out on a 30 degree night? Mine is several years old and got a LOT of use in years 1 and 2 but very little use since then. However, I've stored it in the stuff sack, not a large bag, so it's been compressed for most of those years. Thanks.

This is a good deal for what looks to be a good product. Just over 2 lbs and packs small, so it's looking like a good piece for backpacking. I'm hoping my 3 year old will actually sleep in it as he grows.
