Cry once, buy once. 888D, Met Cal, Thermal Tronics. Not sure why you'd buy something like this guy. I guess ok if your going to solder once a year or something.

Agree. If you solder on a regular basis - do yourself a favor and get something better.
Personally, I use Weller WE1010NA.

For me at any level or frequency of soldering, the Hakko FX888D is the way to go. I love that iron. I love how well it works, but I love that it is ready to go in a few seconds.Only very minor thing I do not like it the colors. It looks like Fisher Price like my first soldering iron. Other then that, it is great and well worth the money.

Because $33 dollars versus over a hundred? I dunno.

Soldering station - used to...solder? Making wire repairs for cuts in the wire, certain connectors require soldering, using bread boards and making your own electronic devices...removing or repairing blown capacitors on electronics. I mean there are uses, but your average person wouldn't have a clue. Personally I prefer soldered wire connections over connections made with crimps in most applications. Especially applications where moisture or corrosion might be a potential issue.

Stick the tip of the pen in there to clean excess solder off
