Quick math assuming you are ok with Visible/Mint at $30/mo - overpaying by $45/mo for 36=$1620, that's what you are paying for the "free iphone".
I have an unlocked phone & pay $20 per month for service. Can't be happier.

I'm not the family plan "administrator" but I'm wondering if me and another family plan member can walk into Costco and do this on our own. We've had *terrible* — and I mean awful, dozens of hours on many phone calls, months and months of "oops, we're sorry" statement credits we had to beg for, etc. — experiences previously with AT&T deals, so I'm a little wary.
But I'd love to try this if it's possible....
What are these fees? The $4.73 and the $7.50? Seems independent of trade-in value.

Service has been great the past four years.
The difference over 36 months is $1980 plus tax!!
I buy my iPhones when I see fit at retail pricing without being locked into a three year commitment.
