This Walmart model (38000btu) is not the same at the TSC model (60000btu)
I've read that this model is more updated with a different griddle top, therefore more efficient without the need for the higher btu's. Lots of conflicting information but regardless, I'm sure it'll get the job done just fine!

Correct, this model 2177 is the upgraded version of the original model 2149. I'd most definitely pay the extra $30 for the upgraded flat top that uses a ton less gas. Blackstone wouldn't update the grill and continuously plug their new omni griddle tech if it wasn't in their best interest for reviews.

I bought the Walmart model a couple of months ago and I've been very disappointed with the performance. It has underwhelming heating capacity. I am unable to sear meat and veggies. The griddle gets up to about 490-510 F max but it cools down quickly with food on the griddle. I pulled the trigger and bought the Tractor Supply unit instead because of the higher BTU's. I let my griddle heat up for about 15 minutes but it does not get sufficiently hot like you'd see in a hibachi restaurant or Steak and Shake griddle.

I think the new Omni (36k btu) was a cost saving venture to get into Walmarts. I believe the largest difference is some sort of wind side blockers. I own neither. Been waiting for a 60k btu deal for 3 reasons.
1. 60k seems to be preferred for performance
2. 60k can be bought with hinged hood (not from tsc)
3. 60k can be converted to natural gas with a kit. I've read you can't convert Omni.

The gas regulator may need to be reset. The first time I used my Blackstone and wouldn't heat that well. I had to unhook the propane tank with all the knobs turned off and then it screw back in. works great now

Correct, I am aware of the different models for lowes/walmart/etc (culinary/patio/original lines), but I am still on the side of the omni top being a newer mix that requires less heat and much less gas to retain temps. That could make it a better choice for most people's needs as gas prices stay high.
If you can regulate the same temps with much less heat required because your cooking medium is more efficient, that's a great thing.
We've seen people on reddit asking Blackstone about these newer omni tops, and supposedly they have stated that they are in the process of producing a natural gas kit for these. That's reddit talk though, *so I'll write them right now as well and update.
