For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

Yes that would be one way to do it. This router requires some level of technical know-how, not an amazing amount but if you don't have any, it may not be easy to get set up for you.

your company still uses VPN?
Lots of companies use VPNs, mine included. How else do you have people work while they travel between locations, or work from home, or otherwise be able to e.g. get pressing issues that can't wait until someone finally makes it physically into (an) office? We've had VPN for these purposes and more, for decades, looooong before covid came along.

It is more common now to use Sharepoint, OneDrive, Office 365, etc. The need has dwindled for on premise connections. There are still apps that require it, but they can be put behind Okta and such. It's a very different world than it was, but a lot of places still have some form of VPN. And VPN should be used when traveling to encrypt traffic.

Could I connect this to the Ethernet cable in my work office and connect my devices.. so that they won't be able to see what I do on my personal devices?

If you set this up with a VPN, leave the VPN on by default, and then only connect your work devices through this router, the most your IT is going to see is that you're connected through a VPN. As long as that VPN endpoint is geographically close to where you live (or you use your home internet as a VPN), it will look like you're connected from home.

Where it gets complicated is when your employer also has a VPN that they force you to use to get on their network and a firewall that purposely blacklists other VPN endpoints.

Going through most corporate VPNs is slower than whale snot, so adding another to the mix just makes it worse. And if they restrict public VPNs all together, you're forced to use your home internet as a VPN endpoint.

A better alternative would be to leave your work laptop at home and remote into it as needed.
How would you remote in to a laptop that is in your home on corp VPN and you donet have admin access on it.

Expensive for what it is. The bandwidth you'll get coming out of a hotel feed, is not enough to warrant the speed and cost of the actual router. Cheaper versions that do the same thing and you won't notice any difference, WiFi or direct connect.

It won't stop them from seeing what you are doing, and if anything, it will most likely get you a quick audience with the IT department, at the very least. Don't plug network equipment into a network you don't own.

OK, if I tether this to my phone while tailgating is there any benefit? or just run my TV off the phone signal?

Unless it's some small fry company mine knows instantly when something that doesn't belong is connected. I doubt he's complying with policy even without the tools to notify when something new is connected to the network. I'd highly recommend not doing this at your work, unless you really know the consequences and nobody cares. Especially in the heightened era of cybersecurity, data leakage, and lawsuits. Just my two cents.

I used to work at a small resort that did that. It was such an endless complaint, that I can't believe it would have been remotely worth it for what little extra money the place made.
I haven't been back there is years, so I wonder if they stopped that nonsense.
