For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

Go to System -> Advanced -> Network -> Firewall - Custom Settings, add the following rules (change TTL value from 66 to what you need) and then hit save:

iptables -t mangle -D POSTROUTING -j TTL --ttl-set 66 -o eth1 ! -p icmp
ip6tables -t mangle -D POSTROUTING -j HL --hl-set 66 -o eth1 ! -p icmpv6
iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -j TTL --ttl-set 66 -o eth1 ! -p icmp
ip6tables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -j HL --hl-set 66 -o eth1 ! -p icmpv6
does this get around just device limit or also speed cap ? thanks

This works perfect through the China firewall. I can do a WireGuard VPN from Beijing to my own UDMP-SE network and use the internet unmonitored and unrestricted. Works perfect in Middle East as well with similar security and internet censorship issues.

Will this work for sharing in flight Wi-Fi on American Airlines?
Yes. I have done it. And if there is the option for free wifi with watching an ad (20-30 minutes) you can continuously re-up it by randomizing your MAC address. It's awesome to only do this one time and then your other devices get back on with no fuss. A bit of a learning curve but then it becomes like muscle memory. You really have to fiddle with your phone wifi settings so that it doesnt keep dropping your wifi when no internet connection is detected.

Another awesome aspect of this is that you can get unlimited data tethering from your phone. All you have to do is copy/paste a line of custom code in the firewall rules and it changes the TTL value so your mobile carrier things all the data is coming from the phone itself. So if youi have an unlimited data plan, which is pretty universal now, you can have unlimited hotspot—which is pretty awesome with 5G speeds of like 300mbps.

I don't really understand what this can do that my phone cannot.

From any modern phone you can:
OpenVPN network to connect to home
Use a multitude of public vpn services
Turn my phone into a routable hotspot.
How about unlimited hotspot data? Your phone can't easily do that without root/jailbreaking. Or run an Adguard Home server so you can filter most ads on all devices on your wifi. Or spoof your MAC address continuously for free in-flight wifi and share with your friends and family. Endless list of features. Shit, I even run it as an alternate wifi network on a VPN so I can geo-spoof my tv streaming apps, like MLB, to avoid blackout restrictions.

can you elaborate on the latter? I already have unlimited mobile hotspot, but when tailgating and using it to watch tv it's iffy. Any benefit to using this or no.

Awesome! Have actually had this in my cart for months now and was waiting for a deal better than the usual $100 it goes down to. Got it for $63 from the Amazon Business site after stacking coupons! GREAT price! Pretty much half off retail!

Grabbed one of these since I can connect back to my UDM with Wireguard which should get me 300 Mbps max (I have 1 Gbps up and down). I'll be able to test next week when I head out of town for work.

One underrated use of GL.inet routers like this Beryl AX is a using it with paid VPN service or Smart DNS with smart TVs/devices without having to muck around with your existing home router. I'm still rocking a Mango MT300N-V2 with Nord to get VPN benefits on my Roku devices with MLB.tv, Netflix, and Disney+.
Excellent point. For anyone that has an old Raspberry Pi laying around, can do the same thing by loading OpenWRT on the Pi. I've got an old Pi that I connect a few Android sticks to. The WIFI on the Pi is the LAN side and the ethernet on the Pi is the WAN side connected to my normal router. The Pi routes all traffic through a VPN connection.
