Is there anyone here who prefers Grubhub over Doordash or Uber Eats? Back in the day I tried all 3 and Grubhub seemed the most expensive (with membership for all 3). I occasionally switch around, just wondering if anyone thinks Grubhub is worthwhile, or is it just sort of "there" and irrelevant?

It's only single use. Which makes me question WHY they are saying 8 uses. Pffff

I have dashpass as it's free off my Sapphire Reserve (until next year). But Uber Eats discounts always gets negated by the non-waived service fee that the sub seems to not void (it removed delivery fee, since they separate that and service fee)

That's because food delivery service doesn't make sense, especially the backwards modern US "gig economy" way. Why would I pay outrageous prices for cold soggy food that some rando takes 30-50 minutes to deliver to me from around the corner? I ordered pizza from Papa John's recently and they have outsourced this to DoorDash now instead of having some high school kid in his 2001 Kia deliver it to me. So I checked how much money it is to order my same order from DoorDash and it's like 25% more expensive (I have DashPass too...) to order from DoorDash than directly from Papa John's. It's just a travesty all around. I get it that the pandemic kind of gave us more excuses to be lazy but I just don't see the appeal when everyone is losing. And I mean EVERYONE up to and including DoorDash, UberEats, and GrubHub.
The customer is losing, first and foremost, because their food is way more expensive than it would have been if they had just gone to the place and picked it up. In addition, most food doesn't travel well. Crispy food steams in food containers.. Presentation is off. Temperature is cold or lukewarm at best. Why would I pay twice the amount of money and wait twice the amount of time, tip 20% and have a vastly inferior experience than if I had just gone to pick the food up and driven it home myself? There are probably 4-5 categories of hot food that makes sense delivered and those are well recognized (basically, pizza, sandwiches, and chinese/indian...) and most of the food that is offered does not qualify.
The resturant is losing in almost every way but volume. Resturant is a low margin business anyway, now you are putting yourself at the mercy of some big corporation that DOESN'T even employ it's own drivers. So the resturant is having to manage this interaction with some random individual (sorry..."gig worker") at the same time as having to manage this interaction with their end user (the hungry customer) when they have ZERO control of anything that happens after the random individual picks it up. So then they get bad reviews, Karens calling up asking to speak to the manager, and all sorts of negative things. And the aforementioned customer gets cold soggy food at inflated prices.
The food delivery "platform" loses money hand over fist at regular prices (even with the coupons!). The only way they can entice people to use their service is by incentivizing them with coupons (like this one) and hounding them with reminders and big percentages. Postmates (one of the first big food delivery apps in my area) used to do this with their "100 dollar free delivery credit" thing all while turning the screws on your bill by literally making up other service charges and then inflating the menu prices so they aren't the same as the resturant's menu. The entire process is designed to confuse and overwhelm a hungry customer until they give up and hit that confirmation button, at which point they are a compliant consumer. They have TEAMS of people designing everything from the UX of the app/website, to the "policies" which are basically excuses to point the finger at the resturant, the delivery driver, or the customer themselves. The reality is even with all of this trickery they are very very far from being profitable and they don't even have to pay their drivers benefits or gas! I'll be shocked if any of these VC funded startup delivery services ever makes consistent after tax profit. This goes for Uber and Lyft too...
Finally the delivery driver gets screwed most of all. These poor people are the only thing everyone sees, and the only people anyone ever blames. They have to pay (in California upwards of 6 dollars a gallon now) for all of their expenses and fight with the resturants to pick up their orders and then fight with the customers because everyone wants something for free or reduced cost, and then they still don't get tipped because people already stretched their budget to afford the inflated price of their delivery food and feel entitled to justify to themselves that they don't have to tip or can just complain and get it for free. If that wasn't bad enough, they then get accused of stealing or messing with the food or yelled at when it's late. These people make 0 money. This is purely an exercise in subsistence work. It's even worse than that because no one takes into account car depreciation and maintenence in this equation...
Why is there something in existence in a capitalist society that NO ONE makes money on?
The reality is the biggest input into food delivery prices is labor costs and transportation costs, and no one wants to pay the actual price for the convinient service they want, so we all just pretend we live in a fantasy world where we can have food delivered to us and not pay a lot for it.
