Hard to say, I think the price difference between the graphics cards itself is $300. I wouldn't pay extra for the Alienware name - Dell has issues. I think just being a refurb lowers the value $200 at least, so probably the Alienware better, but it all depends on what you can afford.

For your consideration, in a similar boat, this one for $1069.99, Condition: Open Box Excellent. 17.3" display (which may or may not be too big for your needs). It has the superior RTX 3070 Ti graphics card, which beat the 4060 by 7%. Might be a good middle ground between the 2, if you prefer the alienware name.

Alienware - m17 R5 17.3" 360Hz FHD Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti - 1TB SSD - Dark Side of the Moon

I'm sad a lot of 16" laptops are made without the dedicated number pad.

What are my options with number pad? The only models really catching my eye are Lenovo Legion series. I prefer dedicated touchpad buttons too but that seems even harder to find.

An uncle of mine is an architect in mexico and has a budget of $1,700 for a laptop that he will be using for CAD (hes an architecture professor) Would this be good for his use case? He needs a laptop to take to his classes. he was hoping to get a GPU with at least 4gb of ram this kind of blows his requirements out of the water.

Im not too familiar with gaming PC's just wondering if this is a good option to get the most bang for his buck.

It does everything he wants but it's bulky. Some people wouldn't care. But some like something thats three lbs and quick and easy to setup with a more business and sleek look even at the cost of raw Performance. So the verdict is it's a great laptop but it could be a non win based on bulk or aesthetics.
