Yep. There was no logical reason for them to keep lightning ports when all their other devices used USB C. It was simply about money. MFi certification money and more limited cable selections leading to greater sales for Apple branded cables.

Because they're "forced" to switch now by EU basically otherwise they would keep reeling $ by their proprietary connector that they get paid to allow other companies to make cables with that.
Because 10gbps+ cables are more expensive to make.
They exist, you just have to be willing to spend more for them. You'd rather these less expensive options didn't exist and you & everyone else had to pay $30 for a USB 3.0+ data cable just to charge? No thanks.
To others in this thread - trash iPhones all you want, but the typical Android phone manufacturer stops providing software/security updates for their phones after 2 years - that's less than HALF of how long iPhones usually receive updates (~5 years). They're still bringing major updates to their phones from 2018.
