It almost certainly won't. 100W cables should be assumed to be USB2.0 until stated otherwise, for USB-C data connections you'd probably want something with at least the USB 3.1 spec though ideally thunderbolt 3 and above.

Will NOT use this for the Oculus Meta 2 connection. As others have stated, it is too slow.

thanks for your feedback all

Unless they're mac users, then they've had USB-C since 2016. Not sure why Apple was so early with their computers and so late with their phones.

Yep. There was no logical reason for them to keep lightning ports when all their other devices used USB C. It was simply about money. MFi certification money and more limited cable selections leading to greater sales for Apple branded cables.

Might be an odd question, but has anyone tried using this for shooting tethered?

Thank you. Order cancelled. You are correct it is only 2.0, not 3.0.

Why can't they stop making these crippled cables (not USB 3.x)?

Because they're "forced" to switch now by EU basically otherwise they would keep reeling $ by their proprietary connector that they get paid to allow other companies to make cables with that.

Because virtually no charging applications need data.

Because 10gbps+ cables are more expensive to make.

They exist, you just have to be willing to spend more for them. You'd rather these less expensive options didn't exist and you & everyone else had to pay $30 for a USB 3.0+ data cable just to charge? No thanks.

It's a very welcome addition, and a strong reason to finally upgrade for many that have been holding onto older iPhones for 3-5+ years (alongside everything else to be gained). One cable to rule them all, finally (nearly) completing Apple's transition to USB-C. They're on the USB IF (implementers forum), guys... Sure money was a motivating factor, but it also didn't hurt to wait a little longer until USB-C chargers were ubiquitous to finally switch either.. especially as some manufacturers are no longer including wall chargers with their phones anymore.

To others in this thread - trash iPhones all you want, but the typical Android phone manufacturer stops providing software/security updates for their phones after 2 years - that's less than HALF of how long iPhones usually receive updates (~5 years). They're still bringing major updates to their phones from 2018.
